Our client is a well-established Australian organisation with a significant national footprint and a long history of operation. With a large and diverse workforce, the business has a structured Group Finance function supporting multiple operations across Australia.

An opportunity is available for a technically strong Senior Financial Accountant to join the Group Finance team, based on Brisbane's northside. Reporting to the Group Financial Accounting Manager, this is a broad senior role with responsibility across financial accounting, taxation, statutory reporting, compliance and audit.

The position also has two direct reports and will play an important role in mentoring and developing members of the Finance team.

About the Role
n
This is a hands-on technical accounting position suited to someone who enjoys taking ownership of complex financial accounting and compliance requirements while also contributing to process improvement.

Your responsibilities will include:
n
n
Manage key month-end processes, including AASB 16 lease accounting, consolidation eliminations, accruals, tax journals and balance sheet reconciliations
n
Prepare monthly Capex reporting, fixed asset movements, cash forecasts and other financial reporting requirements
n
Manage key taxation and compliance activities, including BAS, PAYG, GST, fuel tax rebates and preparation of the Group FBT return
n
Prepare TPAR and Payment Times Reporting submissions and support tax-effect accounting and annual income tax requirements
n
Assist with annual statutory financial statements and external audit requirements, including fixed asset, right-of-use asset and provision schedules
n
Drive improvements across financial systems and processes, while ensuring procedures are effectively documented and providing training and support to the wider Finance team
n
Lead,



mentor and develop two Finance team members while building solid relationships with internal stakeholders, auditors and external advisers
n

About You
n
We are looking for a technically capable Senior Financial Accountant who can demonstrate genuine hands-on experience across the key requirements of the position.
n
You will ideally bring:
n
n
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline
n
CPA or CA qualification
n
Demonstrated hands-on experience preparing FBT returns and reviewing FBT treatment throughout the year
n
Practical working knowledge of AASB 16, including preparing lease accounting journals and working with right-of-use assets
n
Experience across BAS, PAYG, tax-effect accounting, statutory reporting and external audit requirements
n
Previous experience leading, mentoring or developing Finance team members
n
n
This role has genuine ownership of both FBT preparation and AASB 16 month-end accounting, rather than simply providing information to another team or external adviser. Candidates need to have personally worked with these areas in practice; theoretical knowledge or experience limited to supplying information for someone else to complete the work will not be sufficient.
