The Accounts Receivable Officer supports Canberra Imaging's billing, accounts receivable and revenue collection functions. The role contributes to accurate billing, timely collection of outstanding accounts, effective debtor management and high-quality customer service.
The position supports the Manager, Revenue and Receivables in maintaining accurate billing and receipting processes, processing patient and third-party accounts, responding to account enquiries and ensuring compliance with Medicare, Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA), contractual and organisational requirements.
Key responsibilities
Support Canberra Imaging's accounts receivable function, including debtor management and account administration activities
Maintain accurate debtor records and the debtors spreadsheet, including the coordination and processing of weekly and monthly bulk accounts
Process inpatient and other patient accounts in accordance with approved procedures
Receipt electronic remittances, including payments from Medicare, DVA, hospitals, corporate customers and other remitters
Receipt daily cheque payments and process banking in accordance with finance procedures
Process Medicare, DVA and other claim resubmissions and corrections
Assist with collection of outstanding accounts and agreed debtor follow-up activities
Process approved refunds to patients and third parties
Respond to customer account enquiries professionally and promptly
Recommend improvements to billing processes, receipting procedures, debtor management activities, reporting tools and service delivery
About you
A relevant qualification in accounting or finance (desirable)
Experience in accounts receivable, finance administration, medical administration,
customer accounts or a related administrative role
Experience working with receipting, debtor management, billing, reconciliations or customer account enquiries
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
Knowledge of Medicare, DVA and patient billing processes is desirable
Experience using a Radiology Information System (RIS), practice management system or similar billing platform is desirable
Customer service and confidentiality: Responds to patients, customers and staff in a professional, respectful and timely manner, while maintaining confidentiality at all times
Accuracy and attention to detail: Maintains accurate financial records, debtor information, payment documentation and account notes
Communication and resilience: Communicates clearly and respectfully with patients, customers and staff, including when responding to challenging enquiries or situations
Accountability and follow-through: Takes ownership of assigned tasks, follows through on debtor management activities and escalates issues when required
