Nectar is a Brisbane-based conference and event management business delivering conferences, events and awards programs for clients across Australia. We're looking for an experienced and appropriately qualified bookkeeper / finance administrator to join our team and take ownership of our day-to-day finance function.
This role will replace the current bookkeeping function, so strong bookkeeping capability is essential. You'll be responsible for keeping Nectar's business accounts accurate and up to date, including payroll, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations and routine financial administration.
This role differs from a traditional bookkeeping position through the opportunity to work closely with the project team on the financial management of client events. Event Managers are responsible for delivering their projects within approved budgets. Your role will be to ensure the financial information they are working from is accurate, reconciled and reliable — preparing monthly project financial reports, reconciling event bank accounts and payment gateways, providing GST and bookkeeping guidance, and helping investigate discrepancies.
Key responsibilities
Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable
Completing bank and credit card reconciliations
Maintaining accurate financial records in Xero
Preparing supplier payments and raising client invoices
Managing supplier statements and resolving discrepancies
Processing contractor payments

Running fortnightly payroll and maintaining payroll, leave and superannuation records
Supporting BAS preparation and liaising with external accountant
Assisting with financial reporting, forecasting and cash-flow information
Completing monthly financial reconciliations for active client projects
About you
A Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping, Diploma of Accounting, accounting qualification or equivalent recognised bookkeeping qualification and professional experience
Strong practical bookkeeping experience, ideally managing the finance function of a small or medium-sized business
Strong working knowledge of Xero
Sound knowledge of GST, BAS, payroll and superannuation
Experience preparing bank reconciliations, financial reconciliations and reports
Confidence investigating and resolving financial discrepancies
Robust Excel and/or Google Sheets skills
Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
Experience working with small business
The ability to work independently and take responsibility for seeing things through
Confidence working across multiple clients, projects, bank accounts and payment systems
About us
Nectar is a Brisbane-based conference and event management business delivering conferences, events and awards programs for clients across Australia. We're a small, collaborative team where you'll work directly with the Managing Director and alongside Event Managers and project team members.
