Key responsibilities
The primary objective of the Careers Counsellor/VET Coordinator at Dandenong High School is to support the implementation and organisation of Careers Education, VET and Work Placement programs. This role will also have involvement in providing targeted support for programs which align with the school's strategic plan by achieving improvement in student engagement and their connection to school. The Careers Counsellor works within a team of practitioners and reports to the Careers Team Leader.
Participate as a team member, supporting staff to work effectively within the House and across the school to implement learning programs, particularly in the area of careers, job pathways and vocational training
Provide expertise and support to students and staff regarding careers programs, VTAC, SEAS, Scholarships and Access and Pathways programs for tertiary study
Build and maintain strong working relationships both within the team/school and with external stakeholders, including tertiary education providers, support agencies, SELLEN, employers, RTO's, Job Network providers and Centrelink
Demonstrate understanding of issues and barriers faced by students from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and link them to programs and services to support their specific careers and transition needs
Provide careers expertise and support to House Leadership teams, Teachers and Welfare Team to counsel students and their parents regarding pathways and transition for allocated Houses
Provide guidance for staff and students involved in the Learning Excellence Program- Careers Education
Manage and maintain a library of material suitable for use by students in class situations and within the careers department
Organise and implement an effective Careers Expo annually
Work collaboratively within the careers team to ensure programs outside core responsibilities are supported, when needed




Ensure relevant knowledge is kept updated through attendance at appropriate Professional Development activities

Established in **** Dandenong High School is one of the oldest, largest and most culturally diverse secondary schools in the state. It is situated in the South-East Region in Dandenong, a low socio-economic community (SFO density 0.72) with a high refugee population. Demonstrated high level previous experience in management and office administration including Careers Education, VET, Work Experience and Structured Workplace Learning

Highly developed organisational, communication (verbal, written and IT skills) and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrated experience in working with young adults.

Demonstrated capacity to ability to build productive relationships with key stakeholders within the school, across the education sector and wider community to provide organisational benefit.

Demonstrated high level ability to monitor, assess and respond to school pathways, engagement and transition data

Possess exemplary written and oral communication skills including articulation of goals, intervention strategies, data collection and evaluation
