About the role:

Western Health is seeking a motivated and experienced leader to join the Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Unit (NMWU) as an Assistant Director of Nursing and Midwifery (ADONM) based at Williamstown Hospital. This is a fixed-term, full-time position working 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday) with an Accrued Day Off (ADO). Some flexibility in hours may be considered.

The position is available for immediate commencement until 30 August 2027.

Key responsibilities:

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Workforce, the Assistant Director of Nursing and Midwifery is an integral member of the NMWU management team. The role provides operational leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the unit's functions and initiatives.

Key accountabilities include leading the operational effectiveness of the NMWU and its team, overseeing supplementary workforce services, managing centralised recruitment, and supporting recruitment, retention and organisational workforce requirements.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Current registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Experience in a senior clinical leadership role at Unit Manager level or above.
- Demonstrated leadership, sound judgement and a commitment to innovation.
- A strong commitment to delivering high-quality, secure and person-centred care.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including negotiation, influencing and conflict-resolution capabilities.
- Demonstrated experience leading, developing and empowering multidisciplinary teams.
- Proven ability to lead and sustain change that improves patient care, safety and organisational outcomes.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse and complex professional workforce.




- Experience in contemporary recruitment and selection practices.
- Experience managing employee performance, grievances and disciplinary processes.
- Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
