The Orchard Supervisor reports directly to the Orchard Manager and supports the overall supervision of staff and daily farming operations. A key focus of this role is ensuring adherence to WH&S; practices. This is a hands-on position that involves active field work and engagement as well as administrative duties when required.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise and train staff and contractors ensuring set work schedules are met within budget and company guidelines
- Ensure compliance with all aspects of WH&S; and quality standards
- Monitor efficiency targets are being met and operational procedures are being adhered to
- Ensure inductions are completed and being adhered to
- Participate hands-on in day-to-day farming operations including field work and practical tasks
- Deliver toolbox talks to staff as required
- Monitor irrigation and oversee the irrigation schedule in conjunction with the Orchard Manager and irrigation staff
- Maintain accurate farming records and assist with administrative duties including irrigation records and spray diaries
- Report any unsafe work practices, damages to plant, tools or equipment, and any incident, accident or near miss
- Demonstrate a high-level understanding of WH&S; practices and lead by example
About you
- Minimum 5 years' experience working on a large-scale Orchard or Station
- Minimum 2 years' experience working in a similar supervisory role in the horticultural industry
- A valid driver's licence
- Willingness to participate in any relevant training courses required
- Ability to foster relationships
- Ability to work shift work, weekends and be on call during peak seasons
