Role

Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.

Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy.Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.

The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3.Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility.Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases.Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.

This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years.Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered.Skilled support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities

The Health Manager supports the health, safety and wellbeing of students and staff.

The Health Manager provides first aid and nursing care, manages student health information and medication, develops health support processes and provides professional advice to staff and families. The role also coordinates the school¿s first aid systems, facilities, supplies and staff training requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Assess and provide first aid and nursing care to students, staff and visitors.




- Respond to medical emergencies and arrange further medical assistance when required.
- Maintain current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) if applicable.
- Develop, implement and review Student Health Support Plans and relevant risk-management strategies.
- Manage student medication in accordance with Department policy and documented medical authority.
- Maintain accurate and confidential treatment, medication, illness and incident records.
- Maintain current student medical alerts, action plans and emergency information.
- Liaise with parents, carers, staff and health professionals regarding student health needs.
- Follow up outstanding medical forms, action plans and medication authorities.
- Ensure relevant staff receive appropriate student medical information.
- Maintain the first aid room, medical supplies, emergency equipment and first aid kits.
- Coordinate first aid and medication requirements for camps, excursions, sport and school events.
- Monitor the first aid budget and coordinate the purchase of medical supplies.
- Provide professional advice and guidance to staff supporting students with medical conditions.
- Maintain records of staff first aid, CPR, anaphylaxis and asthma qualifications.
- Deliver required anaphylaxis briefings and support staff competency in the use of adrenaline injector devices.
- Provide staff briefings on common health conditions, including asthma, allergies, diabetes and epilepsy.
- Maintain and review the school¿s first aid, medication and student health procedures.
- Participate in meetings relating to student health, safety and wellbeing.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Undertake other duties consistent with the employee¿s qualifications, professional scope of practice and classification.

General Expectations

The Health Manager is expected to:

- Comply with Department and school policies and procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant health, first aid and medication requirements.
- Practise within professional nursing standards and scope of practice.
- Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with occupational health and safety requirements.
- Promote the safety and wellbeing of all students and comply with the Child Safe Standards.
- Uphold the Department¿s values and the Victorian Public Sector Code of Conduct.
- Undertake relevant professional learning and maintain required qualifications.

Who May Apply

The successful applicant must have:

- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA (recommended).
- Current CPR and first aid qualifications.
- Current anaphylaxis and asthma management training, or the capacity to obtain this before commencement.
- A current Working with Children Check or recognised exemption and satisfactory Department employment screening.

- Monday: 8.30am to 3.30pm

- Tuesday: 8.30am to 4.30pm

- Wednesday: 8.30am to 3.30pm

- Thursday: 8.30am to 3.30pm

- Friday: 8.30am to 3.30pm

Location Profile

Armstrong Creek School opened in January 2018 for students in Years Prep to 6. In 2019, the Secondary Special School component opened its doors and is now educating students from Years 7 to 12.

Our school combines both Primary, Prep to Year 6 and Special Education provision from Prep to Year 12 under a single governance model. Our school¿s inclusive model and flexible approach curriculum provision allows each learner to access the educational support and experiences they require based on identified need, individual student ability and assessed benefit. The school also has a Community Hub which is managed by the YMCA out of school hours to provide before/after school care, holiday programs and other community programs that can be accessed by local families and residents.
