About the role
This is a hands-on product management role across industrial and technical products. You will lead new product development from concept through to launch, working with suppliers, customers, distributors, sales and marketing. The initial focus will be safety products and as your product knowledge grows, you'll expand into more complex machinery and other categories across the broader range.
Key responsibilities
- Lead new product development from initial concept and specification through testing, packaging and launch.
- Write new product specifications, benchmark competitor products and coordinate testing against relevant Australian and international standards.
- Manage and rationalise the existing product portfolio, identifying where products should be improved, replaced or discontinued.
- Build robust relationships with existing suppliers, source new suppliers and negotiate to improve product cost and value.
- Regularly engage with distributors and end users to understand what the market needs.
- Monitor competitor activity and market trends and identify new product opportunities.
- Provide technical product support and training to sales, customer service and the distributor network.
- Support product launches, trade exhibitions and national sales conferences.
About you
- Likely at least 3 years' experience in product management, ideally in an industrial, engineering or B2B environment.
- Strong technical aptitude and enjoy getting into the detail of how products work and why customers use them.
- Engineering, industrial design, technical or marketing qualification well regarded, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly to suppliers, salespeople, distributors and end users.
- Understanding of the commercial side of product management, not just product development, and comfortable making decisions about an existing portfolio, including recommendations for product rationalisation
