Nuffield is seeking a Compliance Assurance Lead to join our team in Gippsland, VIC on a casual basis . This role is pivotal in ensuring that our customer's operations meet and exceed compliance requirements and regulatory standards. As Compliance Assurance Lead, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining robust environmental and H&S; compliance frameworks across construction operations. This position plays a strategic role in protecting both our customer's organisation and the environment, ensuring responsible activities within all applicable legislation and industry best practices.

What you'll be doing

- Conduct regular environmental audits and compliance assessments across operational sites to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
- Monitor and track environmental performance indicators, preparing comprehensive compliance reports for management and regulatory bodies.
- Coordinate with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure timely completion of environmental assessments and remediation activities.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to operational teams on compliance matters and regulatory obligations.
- Investigate incidents and non-conformances, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and evidence of compliance for audit and inspection purposes
- Liaise with regulators and government agencies regarding permits, licences, and compliance reporting
- Support the development and delivery of compliance training and awareness programmes for staff.
- Identify and implement opportunities for improvement and operational efficiency.

What we're looking for

- Tertiary qualification in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental management, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to improve productivity.
- Professional certification or credentials in environmental management systems (such as ISO 14001 knowledge).




- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in environmental compliance, assurance, or audit roles within mining, resources, or a related heavy industry sector.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Australian environmental legislation, including state and federal regulations.
- Strong understanding of environmental impact assessment processes and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Proven experience in conducting environmental audits and developing corrective action plans.
- Robust written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining technical environmental matters to diverse audiences.
- Competency in environmental management software and data management systems.
- Sound knowledge of industry standards and best practices in environmental management.
- Familiarity with contaminated land assessment and remediation processes.
