Legal Assistant | Insurance & Public Liability

Salary: $80,000 - $95,000 + Super (commensurate with experience)

The Role
n
Joining a collaborative legal team, you will take ownership of managing administrative support workflows and legal secretarial duties for a dedicated group of lawyers specialising in public liability insurance matters. Key responsibilities include:
n
n
- Workflow & Administrative Management: Overseeing and coordinating daily administrative support workflows to act as the key driver in keeping the legal team operating at peak efficiency.
n
- Legal Documentation & Advice: Formatting, drafting, editing, and finalising critical legal documents, court pleadings, statutory notices, lists of documents,
and tailored advice letters for complex insurance matters.
n
- Brief Preparation: Assembling and preparing comprehensive briefs to counsel, expert medical witnesses, and assessors.
n
- Appointment & Expert Coordination: Scheduling independent medical examinations (IMEs), court dates, mediation sessions, and client conferences.
n
- Diary & Schedule Tracking: Meticulously tracking critical court dates, managing busy calendars, and organising key meetings with clients, counsel, and insurers.
n
- File Structure & Court Management: Managing electronic court filings via online portals and taking charge of end-to-end digital file structures from initial opening through to archiving.
n
- Billing & Financial Administration: Processing monthly fee earner billings, tracking time entries, managing disbursement invoicing, and handling trust/office entries.
n
- Stakeholder Liaison: Serving as a welcoming, professional, and reliable primary point of contact for internal team members, insurer clients, claims managers, barristers, opposing legal teams, and court registries.

What You Need to Succeed
n
n
- Proven experience as a Legal Assistant or Legal Secretary in public liability matters is essential.
n
- Defendant-side insurance legal experience is preferred,
though highly experienced applicants with a plaintiff background are encouraged to apply.
n
- A proven track record of long tenure in previous positions, reflecting your reliability, commitment, and loyalty.
n
- Strong proficiency in court portal filing, document formatting, and legal practice management software.
n
- Outstanding communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a genuine desire to contribute positively to a warm, non-competitive team culture.
