About the role

n

Reporting to the Service Manager, the Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the day to day safe and efficient running of the mechanical workshop to ensure that the fleet, plant, vehicles and equipment are serviced and maintained in a timely manner.

Key responsibilities

n

- Service and repair diesel engines
n
- Perform 12V electrical repairs
n
- Conduct refrigeration maintenance and repairs
n
- Inspect, repair, and maintain any type of diesel engine
n
- Adjust equipment to repair or replace defective parts
n
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions using testing equipment
n
- Provide time critical, efficient and reliable service that meets Southern States' and customer expectations
n
- Be responsible for tools, consumables and spare parts that you use
n
- Recommend appropriate preventative maintenance to avoid breakdowns
n
- Complete job cards and time sheets at the end of each job and submit to your Manager in a timely fashion

About you

- Refrigeration or Diesel trade certificate and trade experience
n
- Ability to read both electrical and refrigeration schematic drawings and diagrams
n
- Ability to work as a member of a team and with minimal supervision
n
- Ability to organise own work time and prioritise work schedule
n
- Self-motivated and punctual
n
- Accuracy and attention to detail
n
- Adaptable approach to working hours
n
- Excellent communication and people skills
n
- Ability to use initiative and has a strong work ethic
n

Be aware of, and comply with, obligations in regard to relevant legislation, ISO on Quality, Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S;) and Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and SSG ethical standards.

Follow all OHS&E; policies, safe work procedures and work instructions (whether in writing or oral). Not place yourself or others at risk of injury. Report hazards and injuries to Management immediately.

Ensure the security of SSG information, particularly company, pricing, sales or market information
