The role

Modelling of mining structures, processing plant, conveyors, chutes, bridges and infrastructure. You take the design package through to shop detail drawings issued for fabrication.

Senior position reporting to the Production Manager. You run your own work packages and mentor modellers and detailers.

Responsibilities

Model structural steel. Produce shop detail drawings, modes, and reports.

Interpret design packages. Specify connections, dimensions, materials and fabrication methods.

Identify anomalies in the design package and propose solutions.

Raise RFIs and TQs with the model coordinator early.

Self-check before submitting for formal checking. Have the first of any repeated item reviewed before running the rest.

Run allocated work packages: scope, program and handover.

Work to industry and project standards.

Mentor modellers and detailers on the modelling software.

Assist with product and process improvements.

Design assistance and client secondment work when the work is there.

What you need

Solid experience modelling structural steel in a qualified environment. As a guide, around seven years, but we will consider strong candidates with less.

Tekla Structures or Advance Steel.



Other 3D structural modelling packages considered.

Knowledge of fabrication and erection methods.

Able to review a design package and find errors before fabrication.

Works autonomously and takes responsibility for your own model.

- Diploma or trade certificate
- Mining, processing, bridges or infrastructure experience
- Familiarity with AS 4100, AS/NZS 5131 and AS 1657

About us

Multiplan has been modelling and detailing steel since 1993. We are based in Belmont, Perth, with offices in Sofia and Plovdiv in Bulgaria, and we work across infrastructure, mining and resources, oil and gas, energy, commercial and industrial projects.

Our work includes Perth's Matagarup Bridge, the Sydney Gateway project, the Mt Holland Lithium Project and the Karrinyup Shopping Centre redevelopment, which won an Australian Steel Institute award for steel.

We sit between the engineers and the fabricator. The models we produce go to the workshop and to site.

We have taken trainees through to senior modellers and held the team together through the GFC and the 2015 mining downturn. Training, development and mentoring are part of the job. Work-from-home arrangements are available, and our Women in Steel initiative is opening the industry up to more women.
