Station Mechanic

Yougawalla Pastoral Company is an aggregation of cattle stations across the incredible Kimberley region. We are seeking a motivated and skilled Mechanic, ideally specialising in earthwork machinery, to join the team.

n

The position offers a rare and exciting opportunity to work across the company aggregation of cattle stations in the heart of the Kimberley region. You will be part of a team responsible for the efficient servicing, maintenance and repairs of the company's plant fleet, both in the workshop and in the field.

Responsibilities

n

n
- Assist with the establishment of the maintenance program for all station vehicles, plant and machinery.
n
- Implement the maintenance program and carry out repairs as required.
n
- Undertake regular services according to the maintenance schedule.
n
- Carry out repairs and overhauls as required.
n
- Procure and organise materials and equipment.
n
- Respond to problems as they occur
n

Manage the spare parts inventory

n

n
- Maintain a record of all parts used from stock (for reordering).
n
- Ensure commonly required parts are always in stock.
n
- Check and record the receipt of stock.
n

n

Maintain an efficient and safe workshop

n

n
- Keep floors, benches and equipment clean and serviceable.
n
- Monitor all above-ground and below-ground fuel storage facilities.
n
- Maintain safety equipment (including safety glasses, goggles and face shields) and advise supervisor of any problems with these.
n
- Train operators to perform all daily checks and services
n

n

- Contribute to a positive safety culture.

- Comply with all requirements of work health and safety legislation and station health and safety policies, procedures and work instructions.

- Supervise apprentices, in the Absence of the Head Mechanic
n
- Provide specialist technical support to station staff working on/with vehicles, plant and machinery
n

Skills

n

n
- Thorough understanding of relevant company health and safety policies and procedures
n
- Understanding of health and safety obligations
n
- Ability to provide day-to-day supervision regarding health and safety
n
- Ability to supervise apprentice mechanics
n
- Ability to liaise with other station staff to provide technical support
n
- Establish, manage and execute the maintenance program for all station vehicles, plant and machinery
n
- Ability to operate diagnostic and test equipment
n
- Ability to performance-test components, systems and equipment
n
- Ability to use tools and equipment efficiently and safely
n
- Ability to store and care for components, parts, tools, test equipment and support equipment
n
- Ability to use business technology to collect, analyse and provide information
n
- Ability to maintain an effective and safe workshop
n
- Ability to provide supervision and training to station staff
n
- Ability to complete a broad range of tasks required of a mechanic across a broad range of range of station vehicles, machinery and plant
n
- Ability to develop innovative solutions in an isolated environment where required parts or tools may not be readily available
n
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

n

n
- Trade qualification as a mechanic or equivalent
n
- Motor vehicle licence (Class C)
n

n

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

n

n
- Heavy Rigid HR Licence
n
- Experience working as a mechanic in a similar environment
n
- Current advanced first aid certificate
n
- Motorcycle licence (Class R)
