n

Ready Vet Go is Melbourne's veterinary ambulance and mobile urgent-care service, providing urgent veterinary care in the community and safe transport for unwell pets to veterinary hospitals.

n

Our nurses work alongside a veterinarian as a two-person clinical team, travelling throughout Melbourne to care for patients in their homes, in our ambulances and during their journey to hospital.

n

It's hands-on veterinary nursing, strong teamwork and meaningful client care — just in a very different environment.

What does the job look like?

n

You'll start your shift from our brand new headquarters in Huntingdale VIC before heading into the community with your veterinarian teammate.

n

A shift alongside your vet teammate may include:

n

n
- Urgent and emergency house-call consultations, from straightforward presentations to seriously unwell patients
n
- Stabilising patients before hospital admission
n
- Home-to-hospital veterinary ambulance transport
n
- Inter-hospital transfers
n
- Palliative care and home euthanasia
n
- Longer-distance transports across Greater Melbourne and occasionally regional Victoria
n
- Communicating with pet owners, referring vets, emergency hospitals and specialist teams
n

Every shift & case brings variety, & being on the road is a large part of the role.

n

Nursing one patient at a time

n

One of the biggest differences from hospital nursing is the ability to focus on the patient their pet owners currently one at a time.

n

Your nursing responsibilities may include:

n

n
- Patient assessment, observations and monitoring
n
- IV access and fluid therapy
n
- Oxygen therapy and emergency equipment preparation
n
- Assisting with sedation, anaesthesia and procedures
n
- Point-of-care diagnostics
n




- Preparing and monitoring patients during transport
n
- Assisting with transport of pets out of their home & into the ambulance
n
- Supporting owners during stressful or emotional situations
n
- Providing clear clinical handover to receiving hospitals
n
- Maintaining ambulance, equipment and stock readiness
n

n

Your role will involve a lower caseload with a higher amount of individual attention, communication and care for each pet & their family.

n

You'll have a teammate by your side.

n

Every clinical shift pairs a Veterinarian + Veterinary Nurse.

n

You attend cases together, travel together and care for patients together.

n

The model provides skilled clinical teamwork, support during higher-acuity cases, companionship on longer drives and an important additional layer of safety when working in the community.

n

You'll build a close working partnership with the vet beside you while still having plenty of opportunity to use your own nursing skills, judgement and initiative.

Good communication matters

n

Some of the most significant moments in this role happen outside the clinical hands-on itself.

n

You'll support owners who may be worried, overwhelmed or making difficult decisions. You'll explain what is happening, help prepare them for what comes next and communicate professionally with veterinary teams across Melbourne.

n

Who we're looking for

n

We'd love to hear from veterinary nurses who have:

n

n
- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent
n
- Ideally 2+ years of clinical veterinary nursing experience
n
- A valid Victorian driver's licence and good driving record
n
- Strong foundational nursing and patient-monitoring skills
n
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
n
- Confidence supporting clients through stressful situations
n
- Good organisation, documentation and attention to detail
n




- The ability to work closely with a veterinarian while using your own initiative
n
- An adaptable approach to changing patients, environments and situations
n
- A genuine interest in urgent and emergency veterinary care
n

n

Previous ECC or referral experience is highly regarded but not essential. Your onboarding will not only ensure that you understand the operational ropes of our service, but you will also be paired with an experienced team member & learning on the job is encouraged!

n

If you're an experienced GP nurse with strong clinical foundations, good judgement and an enthusiasm for developing your more emergency-focused skills, we'd love to hear from you.
