About the role

n

Reporting to the Head of Junior School, the English Leader will provide strategic curriculum and instructional leadership across reading, writing, spelling, oral language, viewing and responding to texts.

n

You will work closely with curriculum leaders, year level leaders and teaching staff.

What you'll do

n

n
- Lead the strategic development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of a coherent Prep to Year 4 English curriculum aligned with the Australian Curriculum and College priorities.
n
- Ensure curriculum planning reflects a explicit developmental progression in reading, writing, spelling, oral language, vocabulary and comprehension.
n




- Collaborate with Year Level Leaders and Learning Support staff to strengthen continuity and consistency of English teaching across all year levels.
n
- Drive excellence in literacy instruction through the implementation of evidence-based teaching practices and agreed College literacy frameworks.
n
- Build teacher capability through coaching, mentoring, demonstration lessons, collaborative planning and professional learning.
n
- Provide guidance and support to early-career and experienced teachers to enhance confidence and effectiveness in English teaching.
n
- Work collaboratively with Learning Development staff to ensure the timely identification and support of students requiring additional literacy intervention or extension.
n
- Work alongside library staff to promote a culture of reading and literacy engagement across the Junior School.
n
- Provide information sessions and communicate effectively with parents regarding English curriculum, literacy development and student progress.
n
- Represent the Junior School in College-wide curriculum initiatives, literacy projects and professional networks.
n
- Model the College's values, professional standards and commitment to child safety.
n
- Contribute positively to strategic planning, school improvement initiatives and staff professional growth.
n
- Maintain current knowledge of contemporary literacy research and educational best practice.
n
- Ensure all curriculum leadership practices align with Victorian Child Safe Standards and College policies.

- A proven ability to lead curriculum improvement and positively influence teaching practice to achieve measurable improvements in student outcomes.
n
- Experience building teacher capacity through coaching, mentoring, professional learning and collaborative instructional leadership.
n
- Deep knowledge of literacy development across the early and primary years, including reading acquisition, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, spelling, writing and oral language.
n
- Strong pedagogical content knowledge and expertise in implementing evidence-informed literacy practices.
n
- Demonstrated ability to develop and evaluate curriculum, assessment and reporting practices that support student growth and achievement.
n
- Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trust and form effective partnerships with staff, students and families.
n
- Demonstrated capacity to lead change, influence professional practice and foster collaborative team cultures.
n
- A strong commitment to ensuring all students are challenged, supported and able to achieve success, including students requiring intervention, additional learning support or extension opportunities.
n
- High levels of professional integrity, accountability and commitment to the values and ethos of the College.
n
- Sound knowledge of Victorian Child Safe Standards, child wellbeing responsibilities and contemporary best practice in creating safe and inclusive learning environments.
