The Chance

We have an opportunity for a Senior Agricultural Officer to bepartof our South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.

Join SARDI and support innovative livestock research thatcontributes to the productivity and sustainability of SouthAustralia’s sheep industry.

Working under the guidance of the Senior Research Officer, youwill help manage research sheep flocks, maintain pastures and farminfrastructure, and provide practical support for a range oflivestock research projects. This hands‑on role combines sheephusbandry, farm operations and technical research support, ensuringhigh standards of animal welfare, biosecurity and researchcompliance.

Key Responsibilities

- Support livestock research projects through practical andtechnical assistance.
- Manage day-to-day sheep husbandry activities, includingfeeding, treatments, breeding and animal welfaremonitoring.
- Collect animal health data and biological samples tosupport research outcomes.
- Assist with reproduction programs, including pregnancyscanning and flock management.
- Coordinate livestock movements and maintain accurateresearch and husbandry records.
- Maintain pastures, fencing, farm infrastructure, equipmentand machinery.
- Assist with post-mortem examinations, tissue collection anddisposal activities.
- Provide supervision and support to farm staff asrequired.
- Ensure compliance with Animal Ethics, OGTR, WHS andbiosecurity requirements.

You are an experienced agricultural professional with strongsheep husbandry skills and practical farm experience. Youunderstand animal welfare requirements, can operate farm equipmentsafely, and enjoy working in a research-focused environment.

Special Conditions

- Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorilycomplete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made anoffer of employment.
- Opportunity up to August 2028.
- Full time opportunity, 37.5 hours per week.

Requirements

- Possession of a current driver’s license and willingness todrive.
- Out of hours work including on weekend and public holidaysmay be required. This work will include observation of andattention to livestock and general security checks asrequired.
- Australian residency or current works permit is required(responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a currentwork permit).
- You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligationsand our expectations.
- The incumbent will be required to undertake emergencymanagement training and must be willing to participate inemergency preparedness, response and recovery activitiesrequired by government agencies.
- A forklift license is required.

Remuneration

OPS3 - $74,095 min - $78,694 max per annum, plussuperannuation
