The practice has been operating successfully for approximately 35 years, has an established fee base of approximately $1 million-$1.2 million, a loyal client portfolio and an exceptionally stable team — with several employees having been with the business for 20 years or more.

For someone who wants to build towards practice ownership without starting a firm from scratch, this offers an prospect to step into an established business with the clients, team, systems and infrastructure already in place.

The Opportunity
The current owner is looking to progressively step back from the practice over approximately the next two years and is seeking an experienced public practice accountant who can become an integral part of the business, develop relationships with the existing clients and ultimately participate in the ownership of the firm.

Initially, you will work alongside the current owner and accounting team, taking responsibility for a portfolio of clients and becoming familiar with the firm's operations.

Over time, you will take greater responsibility for:

- Managing key client relationships
- Reviewing and overseeing accounting and taxation work
- Managing workflow and deadlines
- Supporting and mentoring the accounting team
- Becoming increasingly involved in the leadership of the practice
- Progressing towards an equity position as part of the owner's succession plan

The structure and timing of the proposed equity arrangement will be discussed confidentially with suitably experienced candidates.

The Client Portfolio
The firm specialises predominantly in business services and taxation and has a diverse portfolio of established privately owned businesses and family groups.

Clients operate across a range of industries including:

- Crayfishing and the broader fishing industry
- Agriculture and farming
- Mining and mining-related businesses




- Earthworks and civil businesses
- Building and construction
- Professional services
- Other privately owned and family businesses

The practice also manages its SMSF work in-house using Class, providing exposure to a broad range of client structures and requirements.

About the Practice
The practice has developed an excellent reputation in the Geraldton market over many years and benefits from a highly experienced and stable team.

The current team includes:

- Four accountants
- Two bookkeepers
- An experienced administrator
- The current owner

Several team members have worked within the business for 20+ years, providing significant continuity and knowledge of the client base.

The practice predominantly uses MYOB, with Xero also utilised across the client portfolio, and Class for SMSF administration.

This is an established, traditional public practice environment with strong long-term client relationships and a loyal regional client base.

About You
We are looking for an experienced public practice accountant who is commercially minded, confident with clients and genuinely interested in progressing towards practice leadership and equity.

You will ideally have:

- Strong Australian public practice accounting experience
- Experience at Manager, Senior Manager or Director level, or the capability to step into this level
- Strong business services and taxation knowledge
- CA or CPA qualification
- Experience reviewing financial statements and income tax returns
- Strong knowledge of companies, trusts, partnerships and individual taxation
- Experience managing SME and privately owned business clients
- Strong client relationship and communication skills
- The ability to lead, mentor and support an experienced team
- A genuine desire to build a long-term future in Geraldton
- An interest in progressing into equity and practice ownership

Experience working with clients in agriculture, farming, fishing, mining,



earthworks or regional businesses would be highly regarded.

As this opportunity involves a future equity acquisition, candidates will ultimately need to have either the financial capacity to invest or the ability to obtain appropriate finance when the equity transition occurs.

Flexibility
The firm is open-minded regarding how the successful person initially joins the practice.

While a full-time appointment would be welcomed, they are also open to considering an experienced accountant who may initially prefer part-time hours, including someone returning to the workforce who would like to progressively increase their hours over the next one to two years.

For the right person, the focus is on finding a long-term successor, rather than simply filling a vacancy.

Remuneration
A highly competitive remuneration package in the vicinity of $110,000-$160,000 package is available, depending on experience and level.

This is in addition to the longer-term opportunity to participate in the equity and succession of an established $1m-$1.2m accounting practice.
