The Chance

Our client is a major Australian infrastructure corporate delivering a significant, long-run capital program. A newly created Cost Controller role has been established to build and maintain a robust, audit-ready cost and documentation trail across the program.

About the Role

- Own day-to-day cost control — budgets, commitments, accruals, forecasts and variance analysis
- Maintain a clear audit trail linking project decisions, approvals and variations through to actual expenditure
- Track contractor commitments, variations and claims against approved budgets, and report on movement
- Prepare cost reports and forecasts for project, commercial and finance leadership
- Partner with planning, commercial and delivery teams to reconcile cost and schedule data
- Support month-end: accruals, WIP, capitalisation and cost reconciliation
- Ensure cost records stand up to internal and external review
- Develop scalable cost control processes that can be extended across the wider portfolio

About You

- Proven experience as a Cost Controller, Project Cost Controller or similar within a capital projects environment
- Strong working knowledge of cost breakdown structures, commitments vs actuals, accruals and forecasting
- Advanced Excel, plus experience with ERP and project cost systems




- Comfortable operating inside a live project environment — working alongside planning, delivery and commercial teams, not just reporting after the fact
- Strong documentation and process discipline, with the ability to turn complex project history into clear, defensible records
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Engineering or Construction Management; CA/CPA useful but not essential
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work directly with project, planning and commercial leads
