About Themeda Ecology

Themeda Ecology is a growing environmental land management company specialising in bushland restoration, ecological weed management, conservation reserve management, revegetation and ecological burns.

We work across Melbourne, Geelong and regional Victoria, delivering practical ecological outcomes for local government and other land managers.

We are looking for an experienced Bushland Supervisor to take responsibility for the day‑to‑day delivery of a significant environmental management contract across the Geelong and Surf Coast region.

This is a hands‑on leadership position for someone who understands that good ecological management requires more than simply completing a work schedule. You will need to understand the landscape, recognise ecological priorities, manage people effectively and make sound decisions in the field.

The Role

As the Geelong Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading field crews and ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high ecological standard.

You will work closely with our management team and council representatives to plan and deliver works across a diverse range of conservation reserves and ecological communities.

Whilst the role is for eight months only, there will be opportunities for ongoing employment in other roles at the end of the contract.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Supervising and leading field crews undertaking ecological restoration and land management works.
- Coordinating resources, vehicles, equipment and staff.
- Undertaking and overseeing ecological weed control.
- Determining appropriate control methods and timing.
- Monitoring work quality and ensuring contracted outcomes are achieved.
- Maintaining strong relationships with council officers and other stakeholders.
- Providing explicit communication between field crews, clients and Themeda management.




- Identifying issues early and taking action rather than allowing problems to develop.
- Ensuring all works are undertaken safely and in accordance with relevant procedures, legislation and environmental requirements.
- Mentoring and developing field staff and maintaining a positive, accountable team culture.

Ecological Knowledge - Essential

This position requires strong practical ecological knowledge of the Geelong and Bellarine Peninsula region.

You must be able to confidently recognise and work within the ecological context of local reserves, including an understanding of Ecological Vegetation Classes (EVCs) found throughout the Bellarine Peninsula and greater Geelong area.

We are particularly interested in applicants who can demonstrate practical knowledge of:

- Victorian EVCs and their associated vegetation communities.
- Indigenous flora of the Geelong and Bellarine Peninsula region.
- Strong weed identification skills and understanding of ecological weed management.
- Ecological restoration principles.
- Revegetation and natural regeneration.
- Seasonal considerations for ecological management.

What We’re Looking For Essential

- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the environmental, conservation, bushland management, horticulture or ecological land management industry.
- 1-2 years’ experience supervising or leading field crews.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, organise and motivate a field team.
- Strong communication and friendly interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
- Current driver’s license (Manual drivers only).
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
