We are entering an exciting period of growth and are looking for two motivated underwriters to join our team. This is an opportunity to build specialist expertise in one of the insurance industry’s most dynamic areas while contributing to a growing and cooperative underwriting agency.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of SME, you will underwrite new and renewal business across a portfolio of national accounts.

You will work closely with brokers and colleagues to assess cyber risks, develop commercially sound insurance solutions and support the achievement of portfolio growth, retention and financial performance objectives.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to Emergence’s national underwriting strategy, product development and broader business initiatives.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

- Review and underwrite new business submissions and renewals in accordance with underwriting guidelines and your delegated authority;
- Assess and articulate risks, preparing referrals to senior underwriters where required;
- Manage underwriting opportunities proactively and maintain accurate, complete records;
- Build productive relationships with brokers and provide clear, responsive and practical support;
- Collaborate with underwriters, business development underwriters, claims professionals, legal counsel and other internal and external stakeholders;
- Support portfolio performance by contributing to sales, retention and financial objectives;
- Monitor market, client and product developments and share relevant insights with the broader team; and
- Contribute to product development, process improvements and other business innovation projects.

About you

More important than having experience in every aspect of the role, is your judgement,



curiosity and willingness to develop your specialist knowledge.

To be successful, you will bring:

- Underwriting experience in cyber, financial lines or another relevant area of insurance;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to gather information, assess risk and apply sound judgement;
- Excellent attention to detail, organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to explain and articulate risk clearly;
- A proactive, results-focused approach and the ability to take initiative;
- A collaborative working style and the ability to build effective relationships with brokers and colleagues;
- The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment; and
- A relevant tertiary qualification, which is desirable but not essential.

Whilst Sydney based candidates are preferred, Melbourne and Perth based candidates will also be considered.
