Canine Resorts & Connect is looking for a capable and reliable dog trainer to join our team in a hands-on casual role combining dog training and kennel work.

This role is designed for someone who wants to build practical experience across both training and professional animal care, while working within an established pet accommodation and training business.

The position will be primarily based at Hedgegrove Pet Retreat in Golden Grove.

About the role

Training duties may include:

- Trainer Time sessions with boarding dogs
- Day School
- Group training classes
- Puppy School
- Social walks and workshops
- Assisting with private training appointments
- Assisting with Board & Train programs
- Client handovers and training follow-up
- Supporting senior trainers with more complex behavioural cases
- Progressing into more advanced training work as experience and capability develop

The role also includes rostered kennel work as a normal part of the position.

Kennel duties may include:

- Feeding and daily care of dogs, cats and other pets
- Cleaning and maintaining accommodation areas
- Exercise and enrichment
- Monitoring animal health, behaviour and wellbeing
- Secure handling of dogs of different breeds, sizes and temperaments
- Following feeding, medication and care instructions
- Assisting with arrivals and departures
- Supporting the wider Canine Resorts team during busy periods

Working within the kennels is an important part of the role and provides regular exposure to a wide range of dogs, behaviours, handling requirements and care needs.

About you

- Have professional dog-training experience or relevant qualifications
- Are confident handling a wide variety of dogs
- Have experience beyond basic pet ownership
- Communicate calmly and professionally with clients and staff
- Are reliable and comfortable working independently when required
- Are willing to undertake both training and kennel work




- Want to continue developing their dog-training skills
- Work well as part of a broader team
- Are comfortable with the physical nature of kennel work
- Are available for some weekend work
- Are open to learning from more experienced trainers and developing into more advanced services

Experience with behavioural cases, Day School, Board & Train, group classes or private training is highly regarded, but not essential for every applicant.

Formal dog-training qualifications are desirable, however practical ability, attitude, reliability and willingness to develop are equally important.
