Lead and Shape Children’s Services at Launceston Church Grammar School

Launceston Church Grammar School is an Anglican co-educational day and boarding school in northern Tasmania. Known for educational excellence and a strong, values-based community, we provide rich learning and co-curricular experiences for students from Early Learning to Year 12.

We are seeking an experienced and committed early childhood leader to join Launceston Church Grammar School as our Director of Children’s Services for commencement in 2027 (or sooner If available).

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced early childhood professional who is passionate about creating high-quality, inclusive and sustainable education and care services and can lead across both strategic and operational priorities.

The Director will provide leadership across Early Learning, Pre-Kinder, Kinder and Outside School Hours Care (OSHC), ensuring our services deliver exceptional outcomes for children and families while meeting all regulatory, quality, workforce and financial requirements.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Junior Campus, the Director of Children’s Services will provide strategic and operational leadership across the School’s children’s services.

The role is responsible for ensuring services operate safely, effectively and sustainably, with a strong focus on quality, compliance, child safety, workforce capability, financial management, enrolments and family relationships.

Working closely with the Educational Leader, OSHC Coordinator and wider Early Learning team, the Director will create the conditions for high-quality pedagogical practice while maintaining clear accountability for the overall performance and operation of the services.

The role will also work closely with School leadership and corporate functions including HR, Finance, Enrolments, WHS, Risk and Compliance to ensure Children’s Services are aligned with the broader strategic direction of the School.

As part of this role, you will be required to:

Provide strategic and operational leadership across Early Learning, Pre-Kinder, Kinder and OSHC.

Develop and implement service plans, workforce plans and quality improvement priorities aligned with the School’s strategy and service philosophy.

Provide advice to the Head of Junior Campus and School leadership regarding service capacity, quality, risk, resourcing and emerging regulatory requirements.

Ensure services operate in accordance with the National Quality Framework,



National Law and Regulations, approved learning frameworks, Child Care Subsidy requirements and relevant Tasmanian requirements.

Oversee child safety, regulatory compliance, audits, mandatory training, qualifications, WWVP checks, first aid, emergency management and other required assurance activities.

Lead the response to serious incidents, complaints, regulatory enquiries and areas of non-compliance, ensuring appropriate escalation and corrective action.

Lead, support and develop the Early Learning and OSHC leadership teams and wider workforce.

Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, induction, performance development, succession planning and professional learning.

Promote a positive, psychologically safe and professionally accountable team culture.

Work closely with the Educational Leader to support high-quality curriculum, pedagogy, inclusion and continuous improvement.

Oversee the Quality Improvement Plan across the relevant Quality Areas, ensuring clear accountability, evidence and review processes.

Ensure effective inclusion planning, reasonable adjustments and collaboration with relevant specialists and support agencies.

Oversee service budgets, staffing establishments, resources, procurement and capital priorities.

Monitor enrolments, capacity, attendance, fee and Child Care Subsidy data and provide accurate reporting to School leadership.

Build strong and respectful relationships with children, families, staff and the wider School community.

Strengthen continuity of learning and relationships across Early Learning, Pre-Kinder, Kinder, Prep and OSHC.

Represent Children’s Services within the broader School community and contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement.

Maintain strong partnerships across the School, including with Finance, HR, Payroll, Enrolments, Health Centre, Facilities and governance, risk and compliance teams.

About You

We are seeking an experienced early childhood leader who demonstrates:

Substantial leadership experience within a regulated early childhood education and care environment, ideally across multiple age groups or service types.





Strong knowledge and practical understanding of the National Quality Framework, National Quality Standards and relevant regulatory requirements.

Demonstrated experience leading quality improvement, compliance, workforce planning, budgets and family engagement.

Strong strategic and operational judgement, with the ability to translate regulatory and organisational requirements into practical systems and processes.

Proven ability to lead, develop and support leaders and build stable, reflective and accountable teams.

Experience managing complex incidents, complaints, inclusion matters and operational challenges with sound judgement and professionalism.

Strong financial, workforce and administrative capability, with confidence using relevant service management and School systems.

Excellent communication, stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.

High emotional intelligence, resilience and the ability to navigate competing priorities effectively.

A genuine commitment to child-centred, inclusive, culturally responsive and ethical practice.

A collaborative leadership style and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Requirements

An ACECQA-approved early childhood teaching qualification, or another qualification and experience profile accepted by the School following regulatory verification.

Current Working with Vulnerable People Registration (WWVP).

Current HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting.
