The Assistant Canteen Manager supports the effective operation of the School Canteen by assisting with the daily preparation, sale and service of food and beverages to students, staff and visitors. The role assists the Canteen Manager to ensure the canteen operates efficiently, safely and in accordance with food safety legislation, school policies and the Western Australian Healthy Food and Drink Policy. The Canteen Assistant Manager contributes to a positive customer service culture and promotes healthy eating through the provision of nutritious, high-quality food and beverage options.

Key responsibilities

- Assist with the preparation, cooking, packaging and presentation of menu items.
- Ensure food is prepared and served in accordance with approved recipes, food safety requirements and quality standards.
- Serve students, staff and visitors in a friendly, skilled and efficient manner during morning ordering times, recess and lunchtimes.
- Assist the Canteen Manager with the day-to-day operation of the canteen.
- Monitor stock levels and advise the Canteen Manager of replenishment requirements.
- Assist with stock ordering, stock rotation and inventory control.
- Process cash, EFTPOS and online transactions accurately.
- Ensure compliance with all food handling, food storage and hygiene requirements.
- Provide guidance, supervision and support to canteen staff and volunteers as delegated by the Canteen Manager.




- Develop positive relationships with students, parents, staff and suppliers.

About you

- Previous experience in a hospitality, café, catering, canteen or food service environment.
- Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Sound knowledge of food handling and hygiene practices.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to supervise and support staff and volunteers.
- Nationally recognised Food Safety Supervision.
- Current Working with Children Check.
- National Police Clearance.
- Evidence of right to work in Australia.
