The Role

The Community Health Promotion program aims to achieve better and more equitable health and wellbeing outcomes for Victorians through a place based partnership approach. This will involve working with a population health lens in cooperative partnership with local and state-wide organisations, including Mildura Rural City Council (MRCC), Hands Up Mallee (HUM), Loddon Mallee Public Health Unit and health and wellbeing services, education settings, workplaces and community sectors for collective action in line with the MRCC Community Health and Wellbeing Plan.

The Health Promotion Officer is required to plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate effective Health Promotion activities in line with CH-HP health priorities and community need. Keeping in mind the social determinants of health,



the ultimate goal is to empower people in the community to take control of their health and improve the overall health status of the community. The Health Promotion Officer will bring an evidence based and systems approach to their work whilst working in close partnership with key partners and community on identified priority areas.

Key Selection Criteria

Mandatory

- Tertiary qualification in health promotion, public health, community development or health related field.

- Highly developed skills in planning, implementation and evaluation of health promotion and/or community development interventions.

- Experience with community engagement, partnership development, team-oriented practice and advocacy in a community setting.

- Systems thinking and its application to preventative health practice.

- IT Skills, including the use of the Microsoft Suite of products.

- Ability to be both self-directed and work autonomously or to work in a diverse team to meet shared deadlines, schedules and Key Performance Indicators.

- Current Victorian Working with Children Check (Employee), or the ability to obtain and maintain one prior to commencement.
