Kalamunda Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of enthusiastic and passionate Music Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Kalamunda SHS has an enviable reputation developed over 66 years of providing a quality education to all students. The school is proud of its outstanding achievement in the Gifted and Talented Visual Arts specialist program over 45 years, which is complemented by excellence in academic achievement, languages (three), a specialist program in Outdoor Education, Soccer and Performing Arts (General and Music) and an outstanding music program.

The Role

The school has a strong and highly regarded music program, which covers a range of both contemporary and classical styles.



We have a cooperative relationship with Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS), with a large team of IMSS teachers delivering lessons weekly. The school runs several ensembles including Choir, Junior and Senior Concert Bands, Junior and Senior Classical Guitar Ensemble, String Orchestra, and Senior and Junior Contemporary Bands. A specialist Performing Arts program (KPA) was established in 2012 incorporating Dance, Drama and Music through a Musical Theare context. The Performing Arts program was further expanded in 2017 to create a KPA General and KPAM Music stream specialising in higher level musicianship and performance skills. Upper school students have the opportunity to complete a Certificate III in Music Industries.

Applicants for this pool would ideally be able to teach both classroom music as well as the Kalamunda Performing Arts Specialist music program. They would need to have skills in arranging and rehearsing contemporary music performances for Performing Arts showcases, as well as delivering relevant music theory and aural skills training. Experience in vocal teaching, particularly in the context of musical theatre, would be desirable.

Our dynamic Arts Learning Area includes Music, Dance and Drama in the Performing Arts and Specialist Gifted and Talented Visual Arts, Fashion and Graphic Design, Media and Photography in the Visual Arts.

Suitable applicants should be innovative and highly motivated educators with the ability to provide quality teaching in the Music curriculum area and work effectively as part of a dedicated team. Applicants should have a passion for their curriculum area and a deep understanding of instructional strategies to effectively engage students in the learning process.



They would be reflective practitioners who actively engage in activities to improve their professional practice.

They will ideally possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be collaborative members of the whole school community, embracing the school’s vision, values and strategic directions.
