Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Worker (Aboriginal Focus)

Molonglo Support Services is a not-for-profit community-based organisation providing holistic domestic violence and homelessness support services, which has operated in Queanbeyan/Palerang and the region for over 46 years. Molonglo is proud to commence service delivery for a new short term crisis accommodation service within the Queanbeyan/Palerang region.

We are currently seeking applications from experienced, compassionate and motivated candidates to join a small supportive team working 32 hours per week as a Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Worker (Aboriginal Focus) at the Queanbeyan Core and Cluster. The Queanbeyan Core and Cluster provide support, accommodation, and post-crisis support to women and children escaping domestic violence.

Duties include -

- Strength based case management, information, advocacy and referrals for women escaping domestic violence
- Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed support to women, including Aboriginal women and children experiencing domestic and family violence within a crisis accommodation setting; as well as group facilitation
- Accompanying clients to court, Centrelink, Homes NSW and other agencies when appropriate
- Participate within a small team including team meetings, and proactively contribute to program development and undertake related tasks;




- Ability to work with local Aboriginal communities and the broader community to promote awareness of domestic and family violence and Molonglo Support Services;
- Undertake on-call duties (afterhours) as negotiated with the service
- This is an onsite face to face role and does not include a work from home provision.

Current driver's licence, ability to provide a NSW Working with Children Check and current police check are essential.

Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification. An Aboriginal person is defined under section 4 (1) of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW) as a person who:

(a) is a member of the Aboriginal race of Australia, and

(b) identifies as an Aboriginal person, and

(c) is accepted by the Aboriginal community as an Aboriginal person.

This position is open to applicants from the Aboriginal community, and the Molonglo Support Services should be satisfied in relation to all three elements of this definition.
