Administration Support and Disability Support Worker

Community Nurses is seeking an organised, motivated and computer-literate Administration Support Worker who can also provide direct disability support when required.

About the role

Administration and rostering are the primary responsibilities of this position. The successful applicant must also be flexible and willing to cover participant support shifts when needed.

You will work within a small and supportive team servicing Toowoomba and surrounding areas. You must communicate confidently with participants, families and staff, manage competing priorities and contribute practical new ideas to improve our administration, rostering and service delivery.

About Community Nurses

Community Nurses provides in-home support, community access and nursing services to people living with disability and Department of Veterans Affairs clients.

Services are delivered seven days per week and may include daytime, evening, weekend and active overnight support. This position is primarily office-based but includes direct participant support in clients homes and the community when required.

Key responsibilities

Administration and rostering duties

- Answer incoming telephone calls professionally, respond to general enquiries and direct calls appropriately.
- Respond to enquiries from prospective participants, families, representatives and referral partners.
- Support participant intake, onboarding and service commencement in accordance with organisational procedures.
- Assist prospective participants and their representatives to understand and complete required paperwork.
- Prepare and maintain participant and staff rosters.
- Organise participant support schedules, appointments and service arrangements.
- Monitor roster vacancies and arrange suitable staff to cover planned and unplanned shifts.
- Communicate roster changes promptly to participants and staff.
- Check in with participants and respond to concerns, requests and changes in their support needs.
- Maintain accurate, confidential and up-to-date participant and staff records.
- Complete general administrative duties, including data entry, filing,



correspondence and document preparation.
- Use email, Microsoft Office, client-management systems and rostering software confidently.
- Support information and data management in accordance with privacy and recordkeeping requirements.
- Ensure activities align with organisational policies, good-practice principles and NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission requirements.
- Identify and elevate complaints, incidents, safeguarding concerns and service-delivery risks.
- Contribute practical new ideas to improve administration, rostering, communication and participant services.
- Work collaboratively with participants, families, staff and external stakeholders.

Disability Support Worker duties

- Cover participant support shifts when required.
- Provide respectful, person-centred personal care, including showering, dressing and grooming.
- Assist with medication in accordance with medication plans, training and organisational procedures.
- Support participants with cleaning, laundry, meal planning and meal preparation.
- Assist with community access, social activities, grocery shopping and appointments.
- Provide transport and support for medical appointments and other scheduled activities.
- Safely assist participants to use mobility and manual-handling equipment, including wheelchairs, manual and electric hoists, slide sheets, transfer boards and handling belts.
- Support participants with mental health conditions, complex needs and behaviours of concern using approved support strategies.
- Monitor participants’ health, safety and wellbeing and report any changes or concerns promptly.
- Complete accurate progress notes, incident reports and other required documentation.
- Follow individual support plans, risk assessments,



behaviour support plans and medication protocols.
- Comply with company policies, procedures, the Code of Conduct and the NDIS Code of Conduct.
- Attend training, team meetings and supervision as required.

Skills and attributes

- Strong administration, computer and data-entry skills.
- Experience preparing rosters or coordinating staff schedules.
- Professional telephone manner and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid organisation, time-management and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and respond calmly to roster changes.
- Initiative, creativity and willingness to contribute new ideas.
- Attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
- Ability to maintain privacy, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Compassionate, respectful and committed to person-centred support.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Flexibility to work primarily in administration while providing direct participant support when required.

Essential requirements

- Administration qualification or demonstrated administration and rostering experience.
- Minimum Certificate III or IV in Disability, Individual Support or Community Services.
- At least one year of relevant experience.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check and any required Blue Card or Queensland disability worker screening clearance.
- Current Australian driver licence.
- Reliable, registered and comprehensively insured vehicle.
- Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module.
- Availability to work flexible hours and cover participant shifts when required.
