Psychologist or Mental Health Social Worker

Safe Place Therapy is seeking fully registered Psychologists (AHPRA) or Accredited Mental Health Social Workers (AASW) with experience counselling in private practice to join our team. This role would suit both an experienced counsellor as well as an enthusiastic early career counsellor. Multiple contractor positions are available, including lucrative evening positions at the clinic in Footscray. A minimum of 2 days per week is required to maximise opportunities for clients to see you.

Key responsibilities

- Provide trauma-informed, evidence-based therapy across a range of presentations
- Work with clients presenting with ADHD and Autism, LGBTQIA+ community, relationship counselling, trauma and PTSD, eating disorders, personality disorders, adjustment disorders, and general mental health concerns
- Manage own administrative tasks, including case notes, writing letters to referrers, and writing reports as necessary
- Self-manage and work autonomously as part of a wider team
- Choose the kinds of client types you are willing to see – NDIS, TAC, Workcover, Victims of Crime, or solely private-paying clients

About you

- Full registration with AHPRA or AASW
- Ability to register for own provider number
- Own ABN
- Qualified Indemnity Insurance
- Working With Children Check (if seeing clients under the age of 18 years)
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a wider team




- Experience counselling in private practice
- Skills in trauma-informed, evidence-based therapy
- Experience or proficiency with modalities such as Emotion-Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, EMDR, or Gottmann Method valued
- Peer support and monthly peer-support meetings with other like-minded Practitioners
- Flexibility in working days and times to suit your lifestyle, including weekends and Telehealth
- Administration assistance to arrange bookings, billing and invoicing
- Administration available on-site 9am to 5pm
- Tried-and-tested intake process that matches clients to your clinical interests and skills
- Access to practice-management software, PracSuite – including access to AI-powered clinical notes, letters, and reports
- Comfortable and well-furnished rooms
- Solid referrer network with a steady flow of new referrals to help you build a case load you're comfortable with
