Through our social enterprises and programs, including The Big Issue magazine, Community Street Soccer Program, Women's Workforce and The Big Issue Classroom, we help people earn an income, build confidence and connect with their community.

We are looking for a motivated, organised and detail-oriented Finance & Payroll Officer to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will play an significant hands-on role in ensuring the smooth, accurate and timely delivery of our day-to-day finance and payroll operations across The Big Issue and Homes for Homes.

Key responsibilities
n
We require a driven and self-motivated person with an enthusiastic and positive approach, keen to take responsibility across the following objectives:
n
Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
n
Process Accounts Payable invoices in NetSuite, including fortnightly payment runs and authorisation processes
n
Process Accounts Receivable transactions, including uploading daily sales and creating invoices for internal and external stakeholders
n
Monitor, follow up and manage overdue debtors in a timely manner
n
Payroll and employee payments
n
Process fortnightly payroll, including leave, allowances and Single Touch Payroll (STP) submissions
n
Maintain employee profiles in the payroll system, including updates to employee details, remuneration and award rates
n
Assist with payroll-related calculations including but not limited to long service leave, termination payments and other ad hoc requests
n
Manage superannuation obligations, including lodgements and payments
n
Banking and reconciliations
n
Perform daily bank reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies with internal and external stakeholders
n
Assist with balance sheet reconciliations as required
n
Month-end, year-end and audit support
n
Assist with end-of-month financial processes, including journals and reconciliations
n
Assist with end-of-financial-year tasks and annual audits, including preparation of supporting documentation
n
Fixed assets management
n
Maintain the fixed asset register
n
Perform monthly fixed asset reconciliations and prepare depreciation journals
n
Systems, processes and continuous improvement
n
Provide proactive advice and support for system and process improvements
n
Support effective use of finance systems to ensure data accuracy and efficiency
n
Stakeholder support and service delivery
n
Provide high levels of internal and external customer service
n
Build positive working relationships with stakeholders across the organisation
n
Other responsibilities
n
Assist with the facilities and administration activities of the head office.
n
Assist the Human Resources Business Partner with onboarding and other processes when required
n
Other duties as required as directed by the manager.

Required skills and qualifications
n
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in accounting, or related field
n
Relevant experience in an accounting or finance role
n
Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
n
Strong organisational and time management skills
n
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
n
Solid communication and interpersonal skills
n
Preferred skills and qualifications
n
CPA or CA qualification (or in progress)
n
Experience using NetSuite and payroll systems
n
Experience in a not-for-profit or multi-entity environment

About you
n
You will be someone who is comfortable taking ownership of your work, can manage recurring deadlines without losing attention to detail, and communicates clearly when something needs investigation or escalation.
n
You will ideally bring a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in accounting or a related discipline, relevant finance/accounting experience, solid Excel skills and demonstrated organisational and time-management capability. Experience with NetSuite, payroll systems, a not-for-profit or multi-entity environment, and CPA/CA qualifications or study will be highly regarded.
