Job Description
The office of The Hon Pat Conroy MP is seeking applications for a non-ongoing full time (38 hours per week) Media & Communications Officer (EOA) based in the Parliamentarian's Electorate Office in Belmont, NSW.
n
This contract is for an initial period of nine months, with the possibility for further extension and/or ongoing employment following this backfilling arrangement.
n
This key position in the Electorate Office will support the Parliamentarian's media and communications activities within Shortland and will include assisting with constituent enquiries.
n
Key responsibilities
n
n
- Manage the end-to-end delivery of the Parliamentarian's communications to the electorate distributing digital newsletters, creating printed collateral and managing website.
n
- Preparing media releases and op-eds, attending media events, and developing effective relationships with local media outlets and other key stakeholders.
n
- Working with the Digital Media Adviser to ensure all community facing opportunities for the Parliamentarian are highlighted across digital platforms.
n
- Contribute to constituent enquiries (in-person, phone and email), researching solutions and liaising with Government agencies and stakeholders as needed, to ensure matters are resolved in a timely and effective manner.
n
- Work with the appropriate Government departments or other offices to ensure constituent matters are solved in a timely manner.
n
- Promote, support and maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace culture.
n
- Other duties as directed to support the Parliamentarian and the effective operation of the Electorate Office.

About you
n
n
- Qualifications in media, communications, politics, social sciences, or other relevant disciplines.
n
- Demonstrated experience in drafting high-quality communications materials, including media releases,
newsletters, letters and other print items.
n
- Demonstrated experience in developing and successfully implementing communications strategies.
n
- Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain strong working relationships with local media and other key stakeholders.
n
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to accurately track, follow up and follow through with media and community enquiries.
n
- Experience with digital marketing platforms such as MailChimp, Canva and Adobe programs.
n
- Ability to work as part of a team, under time constraints and strict deadlines with minimum supervision.
n
- Demonstrated professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
n
- A respectful demeanuur when engaging with office staff and constituents.
n
- Prior political experience is preferred but not essential, however an interest in and understanding of the local political environment is required.
n
- An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
n
- An additional allowance up to $9,605 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.
n

- An initial probationary period of three months may apply.
n
- The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
n
- Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
n
- The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
n
- For staff employed by a Minister or Parliamentary Secretary either in a personal or electorate staff position, it is a condition of your employment that you obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 2 security clearance and comply with the Ministerial Staff Code of Conduct.
