About the Opportunity

This Business Development Director position is a strategic commercial leadership role responsible for driving regional business growth, developing high-performing teams, and strengthening relationships with biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients. Reporting into the VP Business Development, you will be responsible for achieving new business targets, coaching and developing commercial team members, and contributing to the execution of broader growth strategies.

This role requires a strong understanding of the clinical research landscape, consultative selling, and the ability to engage senior stakeholders across the drug development ecosystem.



You will play a key role in shaping commercial strategy, identifying market opportunities, and driving long-term client partnerships.

Duties

- Lead regional business development initiatives to drive sustainable revenue growth and new client acquisition.
- Develop, mentor, and coach commercial team members to maximise performance and engagement.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with biotechnology and pharmaceutical decision-makers.
- Provide leadership across the full sales lifecycle, from opportunity identification through to contract execution.
- Support proposal development, bid defence preparation, and commercial negotiations.
- Collaborate with operational, scientific, and executive stakeholders to align commercial and delivery strategies.
- Develop and execute territory and account plans to maximise market opportunities.
- Monitor market trends, competitive activity, and industry developments to inform business strategy.

Skills and Experience

- Extensive business development experience within the CRO, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or broader clinical research sector is essential.
- Strong leadership experience, including team management, coaching, and performance development.
- Deep understanding of the clinical trial landscape and drug development process.
- Strong strategic thinking, commercial acumen, and relationship-building capability.
- Tertiary qualifications in life sciences, healthcare, or a related discipline are preferred.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
