Position Information

Googong High School will open to year 7 and 8 students in 2027. Situated in the Queanbeyan Network on Ngambri and Ngunnawal Country, the school serves a rapidly growing, highly engaged and aspirational community, with the potential for the school to expand to cater for approximately 2000 students.

The Special Education Teacher position will be a founding member of our Student Matters faculty, which focuses on providing holistic learning, wellbeing and logistic support to students and their families. This position will have a critical role in helping establish our first multi-categorical support class at the school. They will not only be involved in the dynamic teaching of students with specific needs, but have a key voice in the development and design of a new and growing support unit at the school.

Googong High School is being designed around an exciting and innovative curriculum structure that is founded in Learning Sciences.



As a new school with the opportunity to establish a dynamic and contemporary culture, the school is building a learning design that reflects a broad research base in effective and modern teaching practices. This includes a whole school skills framework (RECONI). These skills will translate across all our mainstream and special education settings.

Specific Selection Criteria

- Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching students withAutism and/or Mild Intellectual Disability.
- Ability to plan, implement and reflect on quality teaching programs that support students with complex needs.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to form strong relationships with staff, students and families.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
