Coastal and Marine Officer - Pacific Ocean Initiative

The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) seeks a Coastal and Marine Officer for the Pacific Ocean Initiative, based in Suva, Fiji. This project-specific contract role (to 31 Dec 2030) will coordinate and provide technical advice for implementing SPREP coastal and marine activities, particularly those strengthening the health and resilience of coastal and marine ecosystems in Pacific Island countries and territories.

- Lead day-to-day operations and technical advice on coral reefs, marine species, MPAs and area-based conservation.
- Liaise with member states, stakeholders and project partners for planning, reporting, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Develop and deliver outreach products, technical and performance reports, and support evidence-based marine ecosystem management.
- Foster partnerships in coordination with SPREP teams and regional bodies such as SPC FAME Division.





Essential requirements: a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (marine science, ecology, environmental science); 5-7 years experience in coastal/marine conservation (ideally in Pacific SIDS); excellent written and spoken English; robust project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.

Remuneration is tax-free for non-Fiji residents, denominated in International Monetary Fund Special Drawing Rights, and includes relocation, housing, education, annual and sick leave, insurance, and other allowances for international recruits. The employment contract is fixed-term and ends 31 December 2030 with no expectation of renewal after the project’s completion.
