Wyndham District High School (DHS) is a supportive Kindergarten to Year 12 (K–12) school with a strong culture of collaboration, reflection and professional growth. We use explicit teaching approaches and evidence-based programs and interventions. As a participant in the Kimberley Schools Project, staff have access to high-quality professional learning, with all teachers supported to participate in classroom coaching, observation and feedback.

Guided by our motto, ‘Positive Attitudes, High Expectations’, we are a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) school with a strong focus on student wellbeing and trauma-informed practice. We are seeking culturally responsive educators who build strong relationships, hold high expectations for every student, and are keen to contribute to our school and the wider Wyndham community.

Wyndham is located 100 kilometres from Kununurra and has a population of approximately 800 people. It is surrounded by some of the Kimberley’s most spectacular landforms, rivers, and wetlands, offering a host of outback adventures.

The Role

Wyndham DHS is seeking an enthusiastic and culturally responsive English/Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) teacher to join our small, committed K–12 school community in the East Kimberley.

At Wyndham DHS, our motto Positive Attitudes, High Expectations reflects the way we work. We know our students well, value strong relationships with families and community, and believe every student can learn and experience success.

The successful applicant will primarily teach English and HASS across the secondary years. We are looking for a teacher who can:

- build strong, positive relationships with students
- deliver engaging, explicit and differentiated teaching
- support the development of literacy across the curriculum
- maintain high expectations while responding to diverse learning and engagement needs
- use culturally responsive,



trauma-informed and restorative approaches
- work collaboratively with colleagues, AIEOs, Education Assistants, families and community partners
- contribute enthusiastically to the broader life of our small K–12 school.

Experience in remote education or working with Aboriginal students would be highly regarded; however, equally important is a willingness to listen, learn, reflect and build genuine relationships with students, families and community.

Across Wyndham DHS, we are strengthening consistent approaches to explicit teaching, literacy and numeracy, positive behaviour and student wellbeing. Staff work collaboratively and participate in coaching, observation and feedback to continually strengthen their practice.

Our secondary students have access to a diverse program including Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) pathways, School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE), Vocational Education and Training (VET), Outdoor Education, Bushranger Cadets, careers education and on-Country and community-based learning.

Wyndham and the East Kimberley also provide an extraordinary context for teaching English and HASS, with opportunities to connect curriculum to Country, culture, community, local history and contemporary issues.
