Salary band of $77,150 - $94,730 plus superannuation

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (Youth Justice) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focusing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime. About the role:

The Case Officer plays an important role by supporting young people on statutory orders to attend community service, build recent skills and develop prosocial relationships that enhance community connections and employment opportunities. It also includes responding to mental health and family violence risk factors by conducting screens and assessments and promoting compliance with the order.

Key responsibilities include:

- Support day-to-day statutory supervision and case management of young people with complex needs
- Instruct young people completing community service tasks and implement strategies that address offending behaviour
- Model appropriate behaviours and attitudes to assist young people to develop skills and promote opportunities for vocational and employment pathways
- Undertake site inspections and manual handling assessments, complete reports on first aid, OHS and other incidents to ensure service environments are safe




- Build relationships with community groups and identify opportunities for community service placements.

This role involves providing transport for young people to attend and participate in community service. As such a full driver's licence and employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) are mandatory for this role.

This process will be recruiting to roles in Loddon Mallee, Grampians, Barwon South West, West Metro, North Metro, South Metro, East Metro, Gippsland and Hume regions.

The successful applicant will be expected to undertake travel within their appointed region as required.

About You:

- Case management experience in a related field and an ability to tailor your work with young people based on their age, gender, cultural background and other individual needs
- An understanding of Victoria's Youth Justice System, particularly the principals and underpinning relevant legislation.
- Good interpersonal skills, ability to problem solve complex issues and strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage complex behaviours and build rapport with a trauma-informed practice
- A relevant qualification in either social work, youth work, psychology, human services, criminology, or criminal justice is desirable. Final year students are encouraged to apply for Case Officer positions.
