Brownlow Building P/L

Brownlow Building P/L – Port Melbourne VIC

Brownlow Building is seeking an experienced, energetic and design-focused Home Renovation Consultant to become a key part of our client-facing team.

This is not a traditional sales role.

We are looking for someone who can build genuine relationships with homeowners, understand what they are trying to achieve with their property, help them develop their ideas and guide them confidently from their first conversation with Brownlow through design, selections, pre-construction and ultimately to a signed building contract.

The successful person will effectively become the client-side face of Brownlow's renovation division, working closely with our Directors, estimating team, pre-construction team, designers, consultants, suppliers and construction team.

The role combines sales, interior design, renovation consulting, client relationship management, selections and content creation.

Key Responsibilities

Client Enquiries & Consultation

Make initial contact with new renovation and extension enquiries.

Undertake discovery calls to understand the client's objectives, budget, priorities, timing and expectations.

Qualify opportunities and determine the appropriate next step in the Brownlow process.

Build strong relationships with prospective clients from their first interaction with Brownlow.

Maintain regular communication throughout what can be a lengthy renovation decision-making process.

Follow up opportunities professionally without creating a high-pressure sales environment.

Site Consultations

Attend prospective client properties throughout Melbourne.

Walk through the property with homeowners and discuss their renovation ideas.

Help clients identify opportunities they may not have initially considered.

Discuss layouts, functionality, finishes, materials and overall design direction.

Take photographs, videos, measurements and relevant site information.

Clearly communicate the client's objectives back to the estimating and pre-construction teams.

The role does not require the consultant to provide structural, engineering or building-compliance advice outside their qualifications. Technical matters are referred to the appropriate Brownlow team member or consultant.

Work with Brownlow's estimating team to progress clients through our established pathway:

Responsibilities include:

Present and explain preliminary estimates to clients.

Help clients understand scope, allowances and the overall project pathway.

Discuss opportunities to adjust scope or design where budgets and expectations don't align.

Progress suitable clients into Brownlow's paid pre-construction process.

Maintain ownership of the client relationship while the technical team develops the project.

Present final proposals and assist clients through the decision-making process.

Work toward converting qualified opportunities into signed building contracts.

Design & Selections

A major component of this position is helping clients turn renovation ideas into a cohesive finished home.

The consultant will:

Assist with interior design direction and concept development.

Help clients select colours, finishes and materials.

Assist with kitchens, bathrooms, laundries and other internal renovation areas.

Guide selections including cabinetry, benchtops, flooring, tiles, tapware, sanitaryware, lighting concepts, paint colours, fixtures and finishes.

Attend supplier or showroom appointments where appropriate.

Work with Brownlow's suppliers and trades to ensure selections are practical and properly documented.

Help clients balance aesthetics, functionality and budget.

Coordinate selections with the pre-construction team so they flow accurately into specifications, quotations and building contracts.

We want someone who can look at a dated or poorly functioning home and immediately start seeing what it could become.

Contract Conversion

The role continues through to the final building proposal.

Responsibilities include:

Ensuring the client's design and selections have been properly captured.

Working with estimating and pre-construction to resolve outstanding client decisions.

Presenting the final project proposal.

Working through client questions and concerns.

Coordinating final changes before contract preparation.

Maintaining momentum through the final decision-making process.

Assisting Brownlow in converting approved projects into executed building contracts.

Client Experience

We want our renovation clients to feel that someone is genuinely guiding them through the process rather than simply selling them building work.

The consultant should become the person the client feels comfortable calling and saying:

"I've been looking at tiles and I've completely confused myself. Can you help me?"

Creating that relationship is a major part of the role.

Content & Social Media

The consultant will also help tell the story of Brownlow projects.

They should be comfortable:

Appearing in front of the camera.

Taking short-form video on a phone.

Conducting renovation walkthroughs.

Capturing before-and-after content.

Interviewing clients where appropriate.

Participating in project handover videos.

Explaining design decisions and selections.

Identifying interesting project stories for social media.

Working with Brownlow's marketing team to create content for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and the Brownlow website.

We don't expect this person to be a professional videographer or digital marketer.

We do want someone who understands what makes good social content, is comfortable talking to people and isn't afraid to pull out a phone and capture a great moment on site.

About You

Ideally, you will have a background in one or more of:

Kitchen and bathroom design

Residential renovation consulting

Architectural or building design

High-end residential selections

A strong interior design or residential design background will be highly regarded.

You will also have:

Excellent communication and people skills.

Strong personal presentation.

Confidence meeting clients in their homes.

A genuine interest in residential renovations and design.

Solid colour, material and spatial awareness.

The ability to interpret plans and design concepts.

Commercial awareness and an understanding that great design still needs to work within a client's budget.

Strong organisational and follow-up skills.

Confidence working across several projects simultaneously.

Comfortable use of CRM/project-management systems.

Confidence with social media and short-form video.

A collaborative attitude toward estimators, designers, administrators and construction staff.

Experience within the Victorian residential construction industry would be highly regarded.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role isn't measured simply by how many leads are contacted.

We will look at:

Quality and speed of initial client contact.

Client engagement and satisfaction.

Progression from enquiry to site consultation.

Progression of pre-construction projects.

Conversion to signed building contracts.

Quality and timeliness of selections.

Accuracy of information transferred to estimating and pre-construction.

Client communication and follow-up.

Quality and consistency of project content captured for marketing.

Overall client experience.

Most importantly, clients should feel that Brownlow understands both the building and the design side of their renovation.

Working With the Brownlow Team

This role sits between sales, design and pre-construction.

You will work closely with the Director responsible for sales and estimating while gradually taking ownership of a significant portion of the renovation client journey.

The role is designed to allow our estimating and construction specialists to concentrate on the technical and commercial aspects of projects while you maintain momentum with the client, design development and selections.

You won't be expected to know everything.

You'll be expected to know the client, understand their vision, keep the project moving and bring the right Brownlow people into the conversation when specialist knowledge is required.

The Person We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who can walk into a client's home, make them feel comfortable within five minutes, understand what they're trying to create, help them visualise the possibilities and then confidently guide them through the process of making it happen.

You need to be equally comfortable:

Talking kitchens and colours with a homeowner, walking a renovation site with a builder, working through selections with suppliers, presenting a proposal, and standing in front of a phone camera at a completed project handover

Renumeration and Chance

We are looking for an exceptional person and are prepared to offer a package that reflects the importance of this role.

$90,000 base + superannuation, depending on experience and demonstrated capability.

Performance-based bonuses providing genuine additional earning potential.

Significant autonomy to manage your own client relationships and renovation projects.

The opportunity to combine interior design, residential construction, client consulting and sales in one role.

Work directly with the Directors and have genuine input into how Brownlow's renovation offering develops.

Be involved in projects from the first client conversation through design, selections and ultimately to the completed home and handover.

Opportunity to become a recognisable part of the Brownlow brand through project walkthroughs, handovers and social media content.

Strong potential for the position to grow into a senior leadership role within Brownlow's renovation division as the business continues to expand.

This is an opportunity for someone who loves design but wants more than a traditional interior design or showroom position.

You'll have the opportunity to develop relationships with clients, influence the direction of real renovation projects, see your ideas physically built and share those transformations with a growing audience.

For the right person, we want this to become their division to help shape, grow and take ownership of — with their earning potential and career progression growing alongside it.
