About the Role

n

Our client is a QLD government organisation based in the Brisbane CBD. They are currently seeking an AO7 Principal Financial Accountant to come in and work with them on a temp contract up until 26th February 2027.

n

Requirements for this role include:

n

n
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting & Finance and CA/CPA qualification
n
- Experience in Queensland Government financial reporting requirements and processes
n
- Proven track record and experience in the preparation of Annual Statutory Financial Statements
n
- Good working knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Queensland Treasury Financial Reporting
n

Key responsibilities will include:

n

n
- Statutory Financial Reporting & Audit Management: Lead the preparation, delivery, and compliance of annual financial statements in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards, Queensland Treasury requirements
n
- Technical Accounting Advice & Policy Development: Interpret emerging accounting standards, draft departmental position papers, and maintain robust financial policies, procedures, and systems to ensure sound organisational governance.
n
- Financial Operations & Management Reporting: Prepare essential month-end journals and reconciliations, delivering accurate, timely,



and explicit financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
n
- Stakeholder Management & Relationship Building: Build and maintain collaborative working relationships across departmental service delivery areas, executive management, and external bodies like Queensland Treasury.
n
- Ad-Hoc Briefings & Urgent Information Requests: Prepare high-quality responses to urgent financial inquiries, including Ministerials, Questions on Notice, audit requests, and management briefings.
n
- Strategic Issue Resolution: Assist in developing and implementing strategic approaches and technical solutions for complex financial and accounting challenges.
n
- Team Support & Capability Building: Support the Manager with day‐to‐day operations, providing guidance to team members, and delivering training sessions to business groups to build organisational financial literacy.
