What You'll Do

As Senior Research Scientist (Conservation Genetics), you'll lead high-quality research that advances plant conservation, biodiversity management and RBGV's broader science priorities. The role will drive interdisciplinary research programs, identify emerging research priorities, secure external funding and foster strong scientific collaborations. Providing scientific leadership across a range of research projects, the position will supervise and mentor scientists, research assistants and students, manage budgets, and oversee research activities and laboratory safety. There will also be opportunities to contribute to scientific publications and presentations, provide expert advice, represent RBGV at national forums, and help shape longer-term research strategies.

The role spans both RBGV locations and includes opportunities for fieldwork, including in remote locations. Some out-of-hours or weekend work may be required from time to time.

What You'll Bring

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in biological sciences and more than four years of post-doctoral experience, complemented by extensive expertise in conservation genetics. A robust track record in developing and delivering research programs,



securing external funding, publishing high-quality research and presenting at national scientific meetings will be highly valued. Success in the role will rely on strong research leadership and project management skills, including experience managing budgets, competing priorities and staff. The ability to identify important research questions, work autonomously and collaboratively, and communicate complex scientific information clearly to a range of audiences is essential. A proactive, collaborative approach, commitment to scientific excellence and research integrity, and a strong focus on laboratory safety and conservation outcomes are also important to the role.
