The rapid rise of weight-loss medications has changed the conversation around obesity treatment. Against this evolving landscape, LapSurgery Australia remains firmly focused on specialist surgical care, evidence-based nutrition and meaningful long-term patient outcomes.

Established in 1984, LapSurgery Australia has a longstanding reputation in bariatric and upper gastrointestinal surgery. The practice is now undergoing an exciting transition, with a new partner joining the team and fresh opportunities to strengthen, modernise and grow the service.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking dietitian to play an significant role in this next chapter.

The opportunity

n

This is more than a two-day clinical position. It is an opportunity to take ownership of an established dietetic service, bring new ideas to the practice and help shape its future direction.

n

As the practice's sole dietitian, you will work closely with our surgeons, nurses and broader multidisciplinary team to provide specialised nutrition care throughout each patient's bariatric or upper GI surgical journey.

n

The position will commence at two days per week, with genuine scope to increase clinical days and broaden the role as the practice grows.

Key responsibilities

- Provide individualised nutrition assessment, education and counselling
n




- Prepare and support patients before bariatric and upper GI surgery
n
- Provide structured postoperative nutrition care and long-term follow-up
n
- Develop practical, evidence-based nutrition plans tailored to individual needs
n
- Identify nutritional deficiencies, postoperative concerns and barriers to progress
n
- Recognise disordered eating behaviours and refer or elevate appropriately
n
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
n
- Collaborate closely with surgeons and the multidisciplinary team
n
- Develop engaging and accessible patient-education resources
n
- Contribute ideas to service development, patient engagement and practice growth
n
- Contribute to professional educational and social-media content, where appropriate
n
- Recognised tertiary qualification in nutrition and dietetics
n
- Accredited Practising Dietitian status and eligibility for membership with Dietitians Australia
n
- At least two years of relevant clinical experience
n
- Ability to work independently and manage a clinical caseload
n
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
n
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
n
- Commitment to compassionate, evidence-based and person-centred care
n
- An adaptable, non-judgemental and collaborative approach
n
- Experience in bariatric surgery, upper GI surgery and/or weight management
n
- Experience supporting patients with eating disorders or disordered eating
n
- Interest or experience in patient education and community engagement
n
- Experience creating professional health-education or social-media content
