Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Trades Assistant to join our team on a full-time basis. Hunter Custom Building Service (HCBS) is a family-owned business established in 2004. Our team is made up of carpenters, joiners, painters and trades assistants, working together to deliver high-quality building maintenance and construction services throughout the Hunter Region. One of our main contracts is with the University of Newcastle, providing building maintenance services, along with a number of smaller commercial contracts across the Hunter. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who has previous experience working in the building, construction, maintenance or related trades industries and enjoys working as part of a professional and supportive team. The role is approximately 38 hours per week, with work primarily based in Newcastle and surrounding areas.

Key responsibilities

- Assisting carpenters, joiners, painters and other trades with day-to-day work
n
- General building and construction trades assistant
n
- Undertaking a variety of general maintenance, repair and minor building tasks
n
- Loading, unloading and moving materials and equipment
n
- Preparing work areas and maintaining a clean and safe worksite
n
- Using hand and power tools
n
- Basic demolition and removal works where required
n
- Completing general labouring and practical tasks as directed
n
- Working on a commercial pressure washer 1 to 2 days per week
n
- Working safely and efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship

About you

n

n
- Previous experience as a Trades Assistant,



Labourer or in a similar construction, building maintenance or trade-based role
n
- Experience working on commercial construction or maintenance sites is highly desirable
n
- Positive practical skills and a willingness to get involved and assist where required
n
- Experience using hand and power tools
n
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
n
- Strong work ethic and reliable attendance
n
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety
n
- Ability to work independently when required and take initiative
n
- Construction Induction Safety Certificate (White Card)
n
- Excellent working environment, with most work within the Newcastle region
n
- 6.30 am – 3.00 pm hours – great family hours
