What You'll Be Doing

To provide extensive specialist orthotic care to patients of the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network

Primary Function

Responsible for providing clinical, technical and administrative aspects of orthotic care to patients referred to the Orthotics Department, and through participation in the Orthotics team, works towards the achievement of the mission, philosophy and objectives of the Orthotics Department and the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network. Level 3 Health professionals may have a clinical, education or management focus or may have elements of all three features. They are experienced clinicians who possess extensive specialist knowledge or a high level of broad generalist knowledge within the Orthotic profession.



They are required to demonstrate advanced reasoning skills and operate autonomously with minimum direct supervision. A level 3 Orthotist provides services to client groups and circumstances of a complex nature requiring advanced practice skills. They are able to apply professional knowledge and judgement when performing novel, complex or critical tasks specific to the orthotic profession. They may be responsible for providing clinical supervision and support to Level 1 and 2 clinicians, technical staff and students. Positions at this level are involved in planning, implementing, evaluating and reporting on services. They identify opportunities for improvement in clinical practice, develop and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff.
