About DFSL The Defence Force School of Languages (DFSL) has supported the language capability of the Australian Defence Force for more than 75 years. DFSL equips Defence personnel with critical language and intercultural skills required for operational, diplomatic, and international engagement roles.
Contract Details
- Location: Defence Force School of Languages (DFSL), RAAF Williams, Laverton VIC
- Contract Period: 17 February 2027 to 1 October 2027
- Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
- Positions Available: Up to 2
- Employment Type: Fixed-Term Contract
- Teaching Load: Up to 20 teaching hours per week, with additional time allocated for lesson preparation, assessment, and course development.
About this Role
Working under the guidance of DFSL staff, you will deliver high-quality Filipino language training to Defence personnel undertaking the Filipino Basic Language Course.
Responsibilities include
- Deliver engaging and effective Filipino language instruction
- Facilitate learning for adult learners in a professional environment
- Assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback
- Prepare lessons and support course development activities
- Contribute to assessment and moderation processes
- Collaborate with DFSL staff and fellow instructors
- Support the development of learners' speaking, listening,
reading and writing skills
- Potentially participate in Defence-supported language and cultural capability activities
About You
Essential:
- Native or near-native proficiency in Filipino (Tagalog)
- High level of written and spoken English
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) OR a tertiary qualification in Teaching/Education
- Language teaching experience
- Strong digital literacy and confidence using learning technologies
- Curriculum design and language teaching experience, preferably with adult learners
- Sound understanding of Filipino language, culture, society, and contemporary teaching methodologies
Highly Desirable:
- University Filipino teaching experience
- Secondary school Filipino teaching experience
- TAFE or adult education experience
- Curriculum design and course development experience
- Experience teaching adult learners
- Previous experience within DFSL, Defence, or similar government training environments
- Experience in language assessment and moderation activities
