About the role The first 2,000 days, from conception to five years of age, provide a critical foundation for lifelong health, learning, resilience and wellbeing. In this rewarding role, you will work alongside Aboriginal families, midwives, child health nurses and other healthcare professionals to support positive health outcomes for mothers, babies and young children. As a cultural broker, health educator and care provider, you will help connect families with healthcare services and ensure they receive culturally safe, accessible and family-centred support.

This position can be based in an of our offices within our service area including Inverell, Armidale, Glen Innes or Tenterfield.

Key responsibilities

- Building trusted relationships with Aboriginal families and acting as a cultural contact and advocate.
- Encouraging and supporting expecting mothers and families to attend antenatal care, child health checks, immunisations and developmental screenings.
- Participating in joint home visits and community outreach with midwives and child health nurses.
- Providing culturally relevant health education on infant safety, protected sleeping, nutrition and oral health.
- Assisting clinical staff with Aboriginal Health Assessments (MBS Item 715), routine observations, growth measurements and vision and hearing screenings.
- Supporting families to attend specialist, allied health and hospital appointments.




- Helping prepare and deliver mobile health outreach clinics across the New England region.
- Maintaining accurate client records, cultural care plans and health check information in Communicare.
- Participating in clinical reviews, quality improvement activities and workplace health and safety processes.

About you

- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity, as an essential occupational requirement for this position.
- Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice or Community), or equivalent experience at Level 6.
- Current AHPRA registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner, if practising clinically, or recognised senior Aboriginal Health Worker credentials.
- Demonstrated knowledge of local Aboriginal culture, family networks and community dynamics across the New England region.
- A commitment to culturally safe practice, community self-determination and holistic healthcare.
- Strong communication, relationship-building and teamwork skills.
