Ready for more from your next role?
You’ve already started building experience in accounts or bookkeeping. You may be studying bookkeeping or accounting at TAFE while working in an accounts or administration role, and you’re now looking for somewhere you can really develop.
Somewhere you’ll learn the right fundamentals, rather than simply processing the same transactions every day.
Somewhere you’ll have a manager who takes an interest in your development, gives you genuine mentorship, and gradually exposes you to more as your confidence and capability grow.
Somewhere you’ll learn how a modern finance function operates — working hands-on with Xero, Excel, Dext, Syft Analytics, Week and other cloud-based finance and Xero add-on platforms.
And somewhere your contribution is noticed and valued.
If that’s what you’re looking for, we’d love to introduce you to CNS.
A little about CNS
We’re a North Sydney-based technology company with more than 80 people, specialising in Managed Services, Cloud, Networks, Cyber Security and technology consulting.
We’ve been around since 1988, but don’t let that fool you, we don’t behave like a 38-year-old IT company.
CNS is progressive, ambitious and growing. We’re investing in great people, better systems and new ways of working, and there’s a real sense of energy around where the business is heading.
We’re also a genuinely enjoyable bunch of people to be around.
Our North Sydney office is professional without being corporate or stuffy. We work hard and have high standards, but we also have fun, enjoy each other’s company and want CNS to be somewhere people genuinely enjoy coming to work.
You’ll be surrounded by smart, capable people across technology, sales, projects, operations and leadership - and because we’re not a huge corporate, you’ll actually get to know them.
For someone developing their career, that’s important. You’ll have exposure to the wider business, you’ll be encouraged to ask questions and learn, and you’ll be working somewhere your contribution is visible and valued.
CNS has the foundations and capability of an established technology business, but the energy and ambition of a company building its next chapter.
It’s a great time to join us.
What will you get from the role?
We want you to become exceptionally good at the fundamentals.
You’ll develop practical, hands-on experience across accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, reconciliations, invoicing, expenses, suppliers and month-end, with the support of our Finance & Operations Manager.
You’ll learn how to use Xero properly in a real commercial setting, together with the broader ecosystem of cloud finance and Xero add-on applications we use to automate and improve the way we work.
You’ll gain exposure to month-end reporting, cash-flow forecasting, BAS/PAYG, management accounts and the financial reporting behind a growing business.
But this isn’t purely an accounting role.
You’ll also develop broader business and administration skills - managing suppliers, coordinating facilities, solving problems,
dealing with customers and colleagues, organising competing priorities and becoming someone the wider team knows they can rely on.
Most importantly, you won’t be expected to figure all of this out alone.
You’ll work closely with our Finance & Operations Manager, who will provide guidance and mentorship as you develop. As you demonstrate capability, we’ll give you greater exposure, responsibility and autonomy.
The objective isn’t to have you doing exactly the same job two years from now.
We want you to grow with us.
What you’ll be doing
Your day-to-day role will span both accounts and business administration, so there’ll be plenty of variety.
Finance & Accounts
You’ll manage day-to-day banking and reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, invoicing, employee expenses, supplier accounts and payment runs.
You’ll help ensure the financial fundamentals of CNS are accurate, organised and completed on time.
Customers & Suppliers
You’ll communicate directly with customers and suppliers, help resolve billing and payment queries, maintain accurate records and make sure issues are followed through properly.
You’ll build relationships with people inside and outside CNS and become someone they know they can rely on.
Month-End & Reporting
You’ll support our Finance & Operations Manager with month-end close, account reconciliations, cash-flow forecasting, BAS/PAYG, management reporting and audit preparation.
As your skills develop, we’ll gradually increase your exposure to this area and help you understand not just what we’re doing, but why we’re doing it.
Office & Administration
You’ll help make our North Sydney office a great place to work.
That includes coordinating facilities, office supplies and amenities, access cards, parking, equipment, meeting rooms, suppliers and the various day-to-day things that keep a busy office running smoothly.
If something needs organising, following up or sorting out, you’ll often be the person who helps make it happen.
Systems & Process Improvement
We’re a technology business, so we believe our own finance and administration should make good use of technology too.
You’ll work with Xero, Dext, Excel and a range of connected cloud applications, learning how different systems work together and helping us improve and automate our processes.
We’re continually looking for better ways of doing things, and you’ll be encouraged to contribute ideas rather than simply accept, “that’s how we’ve always done it.”
You might be perfect for this role if…
You already have some hands-on experience in accounts, bookkeeping or finance administration, ideally around 1–3 years and understand the basics of accounts payable,
accounts receivable, invoicing and reconciliations.
You may be studying, or have recently completed, a Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping, Diploma of Accounting or similar qualification through TAFE or another recognised provider.
You’re comfortable with numbers, but you’re equally happy organising things, dealing with people and getting things done.
You’re naturally organised and detail-oriented. You notice when something isn’t right and take pride in sorting it out.
You’re comfortable with technology and keen to learn new systems. Experience with Xero, Excel, Dext or similar platforms would be great, but we don’t expect you to know everything on day one.
You communicate well and are comfortable dealing with customers, suppliers, colleagues and managers.
You take ownership. When something lands with you, you follow it through.
And most importantly, you want to learn.
You want to understand why something is done, not simply which button you’re supposed to press.
You want feedback, mentorship and the opportunity to take on more responsibility as you develop.
And you’re looking for a business where doing great work gets noticed.
More than your next accounts job
Early in your career, the environment you work in can make an enormous difference.
You can spend several years processing transactions and leave knowing little more than when you arrived.
Or you can work somewhere that gives you strong fundamentals, modern systems, broad business exposure, good mentorship and increasingly challenging work.
That’s what we want this role to be.
At CNS, you’ll be known. Your contribution will be visible. Your ideas will be listened to. And as your capability grows, we’ll look for opportunities for your role to grow with you.
Whether your longer-term career takes you towards accounting, finance, commercial operations, business operations or administration, you’ll have the opportunity to build a strong foundation here.
Ready for what’s next?
If you’ve already started your journey in accounts or bookkeeping and you’re looking for somewhere that will invest in your development, value your contribution and give you the opportunity to grow, we’d love to hear from you.
You don’t need to know everything.
Bring some experience, a great attitude, curiosity and a willingness to learn.
We’ll help you build from there.
Join CNS and become part of the team helping build the next chapter of a progressive Australian technology business.
Your application will include the following questions:
Which of the following statements best describes your right to work in Australia?
