Hays is partnering with Barbell Foods on the recruitment of an Assistant Accountant.

Barbell Foods make high-protein meat snacks using a short list of ingredients: meat, vinegar and spices. Today, Barbell products are stocked in more than 4,000 retail outlets nationally and continue to grow across grocery, wholesale and online channels.

As the business expands, Barbell is bringing more finance capability in-house and is looking for its first dedicated finance hire.

The Role

Working directly with the CFO, you'll help build the finance function from the ground up. The books are transactionally healthy, but the close isn't yet a process. Many of the reporting routines, controls and disciplines are still taking shape, and you'll help create them.

This isn't a role where you'll inherit a mature finance function and follow a playbook. It's an opportunity to bring structure, improve reporting and help build processes that can support a growing business.

The numbers you sign off on won't sit on a shelf. They'll be used by the CFO, leadership team and Board to make decisions, making ownership and accuracy critical to success in the role.

Full time is preferred, however four days per week will be considered for the right person.

Key Responsibilities

- Own month-end close activities and improve the close process over time

- Prepare journals, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations

- Reconcile inventory, work in progress, goods in transit and cost of goods sold between Cin7 Core and Xero

- Complete bank,



payroll and payment platform reconciliations

- Prepare BAS and support compliance obligations

- Maintain the fixed asset register

- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies

- Assist in developing finance procedures, controls and reporting routines

Skills

- Strong Xero experience

- Experience contributing to or owning a month-end close process

- Inventory reconciliation experience within FMCG, manufacturing, wholesale, retail or distribution

- Strong reconciliation skills and attention to detail

- Exposure to Cin7 Core, DEAR, Unleashed, NetSuite or similar systems

- Understanding of BAS and GST requirements

- CPA or CA studies advantageous but not essential
