Inspire the next generation of agricultural leaders

The Riverina Anglican College is seeking an experienced and highly capable Agriculture educator to lead its Agriculture faculty.

This is a distinctive leadership opportunity for an educator who combines strong curriculum knowledge with practical agricultural experience. The Head of Agriculture is responsible for maintaining high-quality teaching and learning across Years 9 to 12, supporting Agriculture experiences in the Junior School and overseeing the College’s 4.5-hectare farm as a safe, functional and productive teaching facility.

The successful applicant will lead an Agriculture teacher and two farm hands and work collaboratively with the College’s Show Coordinator. The role combines faculty leadership, classroom teaching, livestock and farm management, student development and support for an established cattle and sheep show program.

About the role

The Head of Agriculture will provide educational and operational leadership across the Agriculture faculty. The position involves teaching Agriculture as timetabled, overseeing curriculum and assessment, managing the school farm and working closely with staff to maintain high standards of student learning, safety and animal welfare.

Key responsibilities include:

- Leading Agriculture teaching, curriculum planning, assessment, reporting and faculty development.
- Maintaining programs and resources aligned with relevant NSW Agriculture syllabuses.
- Managing faculty and farm budgets and supervising Agriculture staff and farm personnel.
- Ensuring the school farm remains a secure, productive and purposeful teaching facility.
- Coordinating the farm calendar around teaching, livestock care, breeding, lambing, shearing, feed supply and show preparation.




- Overseeing the health, welfare, nutrition and management of the College’s cattle and Poll Dorset sheep stud.
- Managing grazing, feed inventories, animal health programs, farm infrastructure and seasonal husbandry activities in collaboration with the farm hands.
- Maintaining livestock identification, movement, treatment, biosecurity and chemical records, including NLIS, NVD, LPA and Poll Dorset stud requirements.
- Maintaining productive relationships with livestock suppliers, breeders, veterinarians, contractors and agricultural organisations.
- Ensuring practical learning and livestock activities are supported by appropriate risk assessments, supervision and safe work procedures.

Agricultural show program

The College operates an established cattle and sheep show program that attends approximately 15 agricultural shows each year.

The Head of Agriculture will support the Show Coordinator by:

- Working with students and the Show Coordinator during Friday afternoon show preparation periods.
- Helping prepare cattle and sheep for parading, handling, junior judging and carcass competitions.
- Assisting with the sourcing, selection, feeding, conditioning and preparation of suitable livestock.
- Monitoring livestock behaviour and helping students develop safe and confident handling skills.
- Halter training sheep and supporting the training of cattle for student use.
- Inducting and mentoring new students in animal behaviour, show expectations, teamwork and safe livestock handling.
- Assisting with livestock documentation, transport planning, equipment preparation and staffing arrangements.
- Attending and supporting selected shows as agreed with College leadership.

The Show Coordinator retains responsibility for coordinating the show program, with the Head of Agriculture providing the agricultural, livestock and operational support needed for the program to succeed.

About you





The successful applicant will be an accomplished Agriculture educator and collaborative leader with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as an agriculture teacher who can move confidently between the classroom, the farm and demonstrated similar experience in the show ring.

You will demonstrate:

- Appropriate teaching qualifications and current NESA accreditation, or eligibility to obtain accreditation.
- A strong knowledge of Agriculture curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and student learning.
- Practical experience in cattle and sheep husbandry, nutrition, animal health and safe livestock handling.
- The capacity to manage a working school farm and coordinate competing educational, operational and seasonal priorities.
- An understanding of livestock identification, traceability, biosecurity and industry compliance requirements.
- Strong organisational, communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to lead staff and work collaboratively with farm personnel, the Show Coordinator and College leadership.
- A commitment to student wellbeing, child safety and the Christian ethos of the College.
- A willingness to contribute to extracurricular and agricultural show activities.

Experience with Poll Dorset sheep, livestock breeding programs, agricultural shows, farm machinery or livestock transport are essential criteria for this role.
