Business Development Manager | Commercial & Industrial Solar & Battery

E³ Energy is a fast-growing renewable energy business with operations in Victoria and an expanding presence across New South Wales. Backed by a larger energy group, we specialise in Commercial & Industrial (C&I;) solar and battery energy storage solutions, helping businesses reduce energy costs, improve energy efficiency, and achieve greater energy independence.
As part of our continued growth, we are establishing a new New South Wales operation with a dedicated focus on developing our C&I; renewable energy business across the NSW market.
We work with leading solar, battery, and energy technology partners and are committed to delivering high-quality energy solutions, professional project delivery, and reliable customer support.
About the Role In this role, you will be responsible for developing new business opportunities across the New South Wales Commercial & Industrial (C&I;) solar and battery energy storage market.
You will take ownership of the business development and sales process from prospecting and lead generation through to proposal presentation, commercial negotiation, contract execution, and project handover.
You will proactively identify and engage commercial and industrial customers and industry channels, develop a strong pipeline of potential projects, understand customers' energy requirements, coordinate site visits and technical assessments, and work closely with our Solution Consultants to develop suitable solar and battery solutions.
The role will focus on developing opportunities across a range of C&I; customer segments, including commercial property, industrial facilities, warehouses, cold storage facilities, manufacturing businesses, and other energy-intensive commercial and industrial sites.
Working closely with our Sales, Solution Consulting, Engineering, Project Management, and Operations teams across Victoria and New South Wales, you will help convert business opportunities into viable projects and ensure a professional transition from sales to project delivery.
As this is a growing New South Wales operation, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to build the local market, establish key industry relationships, develop the customer pipeline, and contribute to the company's NSW growth strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Lead Generation
- Proactively identify and develop new Commercial & Industrial solar and battery customers across New South Wales.
- Conduct outbound business development activities through direct engagement, networking, referrals, industry events, exhibitions, partnerships, and other channels.
- Identify and develop business development channels and strategic relationships with commercial property owners, property managers, developers, energy consultants, electrical contractors, suppliers, and other industry stakeholders.
- Research and identify potential customers, businesses, sites, projects, and market opportunities.
- Develop and maintain a strong pipeline across key C&I; sectors, including:
- Commercial property
- Industrial facilities
- Warehouses and logistics facilities
- Cold storage and refrigerated facilities
- Manufacturing businesses
- Other energy-intensive commercial and industrial customers
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders.
Customer Qualification & Opportunity Development
- Engage with prospective customers to understand their business operations, energy requirements, current challenges, and renewable energy objectives.
- Obtain and review relevant customer information required for project assessment, including:
- Electricity bills
- Interval / half-hourly electricity data
- Site information
- Existing electrical and energy infrastructure information
- Site drawings or other relevant technical information where available
- Qualify opportunities based on customer requirements, site characteristics, energy consumption, project potential, and commercial viability.
- Coordinate with internal Solution Consultants and technical teams to assess project opportunities and determine suitable solar PV and battery energy storage solutions.
Site Visits & Solution Development
- Organise and coordinate customer site visits with internal technical and solution consulting teams.
- Attend site visits and customer meetings where required.
- Coordinate the collection of relevant site information and customer requirements.
- Work closely with Solution Consultants to develop appropriate technical and commercial solutions for customers.
- Coordinate internal stakeholders to ensure proposals are prepared accurately and within agreed timelines.
Proposal & Sales
- Prepare and coordinate qualified proposals, capability statements, presentations, quotations, and other commercial documentation.
- Present solar and battery solutions and proposals directly to customers and key decision-makers.
- Clearly communicate the commercial, technical, and financial benefits of proposed solutions.
- Respond to customer questions and coordinate with internal technical teams to address technical requirements.
- Manage customer follow-up throughout the sales process.
- Lead commercial discussions and negotiations with customers.
- Negotiate commercial terms, pricing, scope, and other relevant contract matters within approved company parameters.
- Progress qualified opportunities through to contract execution and successful project close.
Contract Close & Project Handover
- Manage the sales process through to customer commitment and contract signing.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure all commercial and project information is complete before contract execution.
- Following contract signing, conduct a formal handover to the Project Manager / Project Management team.
- Ensure the project handover includes all relevant customer, commercial, technical, site, proposal, and contractual information required for successful project delivery.
- Support the Project Manager and internal teams with clarification of customer requirements or commercial matters following handover where required.
CRM & Pipeline Management
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer and opportunity information in the CRM system.
- Manage the business development pipeline, including lead status, opportunity stage, expected value, next actions,
follow-up dates, and probability.
- Record customer meetings, communications, site visits, proposals, and key opportunity developments.
- Ensure all opportunities are progressed and followed up in a timely manner.
- Provide regular pipeline and sales activity updates to management.
- Maintain accurate sales forecasts and identify potential risks, delays, and opportunities within the pipeline.
Market Development & Reporting
- Monitor NSW C&I; renewable energy market trends, competitor activities, customer demand, and emerging opportunities.
- Identify new customer segments, industry channels, partnerships, and business development opportunities.
- Provide regular updates to management on business development activities, pipeline performance, customer feedback, market conditions, and potential projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve sales processes, customer experience, market engagement, and business development performance.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience in business development, B2B sales, account management, commercial sales, or a related role.
- Experience working with commercial or industrial customers is highly desirable.
- Experience in Commercial & Industrial solar, battery storage, renewable energy, electrical, construction, engineering, property, or related industries is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively generate new business opportunities and develop customer pipelines.
- Strong ability to engage with business owners, property owners, senior managers, and other commercial decision-makers.
- Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Commercially minded with a strong focus on converting opportunities into completed projects.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple opportunities and sales activities simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage the full business development process.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office and CRM or business management systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Solution Consultants, Sales, Engineering, Project Management, Operations, and Management teams.
- A current Australian driver's licence and willingness to travel across New South Wales for customer meetings and site visits.
