Armajun Aboriginal Health Service is seeking an experienced and passionate Clinical Midwife Specialist to join our Closing the Gap – First 2000 Days Program.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to Aboriginal mothers, babies, young children and families by providing culturally safe, evidence-informed maternity care, health education and care coordination from early pregnancy through the early years of life.

About the opportunity

Working across Armajun sites and mobile outreach services throughout the Recent England region, you will lead the clinical midwifery component of the First 2000 Days Program.

You will provide advanced antenatal and postnatal care, support continuity of care, identify and manage clinical risks, and strengthen connections between Aboriginal families, primary healthcare, maternity services and child health providers.

Working autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, you will help improve maternal and infant health outcomes and increase engagement with health services.

Key responsibilities

- Provide comprehensive antenatal and postnatal assessments, care planning, monitoring and evaluation.

- Support women throughout pregnancy and up to eight weeks postpartum through continuity of care.

- Conduct community outreach clinics and home visits across the region.

- Provide culturally appropriate health education, including breastfeeding, infant feeding, parenting and healthy lifestyles.

- Identify clinical and social risks,



facilitate referrals and coordinate care for women and families with complex needs.

- Lead strategies to improve early antenatal engagement, including attendance before 13 weeks gestation.

- Work closely with Aboriginal Health Workers, Child and Family Health Nurses, GPs, hospitals, visiting specialists and community services.

- Provide clinical leadership, mentoring and education to nursing staff, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, students and new graduates.

- Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, clinical audits and evidence-based practice.

About you

You are a Registered Midwife who brings strong clinical expertise, cultural awareness and a commitment to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal families.

To be successful, you will have:

- Current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Midwife.

- Minimum three years of postgraduate clinical midwifery experience.

- Demonstrated experience in comprehensive antenatal and postnatal care.

- Strong understanding of Aboriginal health, cultural safety and the social determinants of health.

- Advanced clinical assessment, problem-solving and care coordination skills.

- Ability to work autonomously in community and outreach settings.

- Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

- High-level communication,



documentation and electronic health record skills.

- Current unrestricted Australian Driver Licence.

- Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check.

Experience in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, continuity of care maternity models, rural or regional health services, or postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field will be highly regarded.
