Commercial Litigation & Building Lawyer

2 to 4 Years’ Experience | Melbourne CBD | Full Time, Permanent

We are looking for a commercial litigator with at least two years’ experience, including some experience in building litigation, to join our highly respected legal practice in the CBD.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a prominent and busy practice which is looking to grow. With a continuous flow of enquiries from existing clients, referrals and our significant presence on Google, you will be working across a range of commercial litigation and building litigation matters.

About us

Hendersons Legal is a boutique Melbourne CBD-based firm. David Henderson founded it in 2001 and has extensive experience across commercial litigation, building disputes and property matters. Building and construction is one of our core practice areas, alongside commercial litigation, property, insolvency and estates. Our clients include individuals and families, as well as small to medium-sized Victorian businesses.

The work

You will work in a range of matters including acting in domestic building, owners corporation and commercial disputes at VCAT, the Magistrates Court, County Court, Supreme Court and Federal Court of Australia. We have recently acted in a matter that was heard in the Full Court of the High Court of Australia and is presently awaiting judgment.

This is a wide and wide-ranging role that will require quick thinking and an enthusiasm for providing excellent legal services and outcomes to our clients. You will be responsible for providing legal advice and guidance to your own clients, as well as working alongside our senior lawyers on larger and more complex cases.

The role will include running your own files, direct client contact, strategy, drafting, correspondence, appearing at directions hearings and mediations, with a senior lawyer available when you need one.

Who you will learn from

You will report to the principal of the firm David Henderson and will work alongside David and Melissa Henderson,



who was previously chief executive of a large building company. She knows this industry from inside it as well as from the law, which is not something you will find at most firms.

The successful applicant will have

· At least two years’ post-admission experience in commercial litigation or domestic building disputes.

· Admission to practise in Victoria and a current practising certificate.

· Proficient writing and drafting skills: pleadings, submissions, advice and correspondence.

· Some experience in appearing at directions hearings and mediations.

· A curiosity and willingness to learn and keep up to date with the ever-changing laws and procedures pertaining to all aspects of your work.

· Experience instructing counsel and running your own hearings.
