Senior Product Designer - Melbourne, VIC

Our client is a fast-growing Australian technology company that designs, manufactures and deploys its own hardware products at scale. Backed by recent investment and expanding both locally and internationally, they are building out their product design capability and looking for a senior hand to take ownership of it. This is a hands-on, end-to-end product design role. The products are engineered to perform reliably in demanding, real-world conditions over long service lives, so design quality, robustness and manufacturability genuinely matter here. The role You will own the end-to-end development of physical products, from requirements and concept through prototyping, validation, manufacture and continuous improvement.

Day to day you will

- Translate customer, engineering and production requirements into practical, manufacturable design solutions
- Develop 3D models, assemblies, engineering drawings and production-ready designs in SolidWorks
- Run FEA and mechanical validation, and drive data-led design improvements
- Design production tooling, assembly jigs, fixtures and test stations to improve safety, repeatability and efficiency
- Create and maintain BOMs, and identify cost-reduction and manufacturing simplification opportunities




- Coordinate with suppliers on quotes, samples, manufacturability feedback, revisions and lead times
- Produce technical and customer documentation: datasheets, installation guides, SOPs and assembly instructions
- Collaborate closely with engineering, product, production and operations

What you will need

- Experience in end-to-end hardware product development
- Proven experience designing injection-moulded plastic components
- Advanced SolidWorks modelling and drafting
- Sheet metal design and solid DFM/DFA fundamentals
- IP ratings, environmental sealing and outdoor durability experience
- Experience designing electro-mechanical products

Bonus points for

- FEA and simulation capability, with the judgement to validate designs properly
- Production tooling and assembly jig design
- 3D printing and rapid prototyping
- Adobe Illustrator or similar for technical and customer documentation
